Stupid Question.. what would happen if you continuosly drive WITHOUT a gas cap on your GS400?

How much is it to replace?

I don't know how much it would cost since you're not in the U.S., but anyone here could probably go to a local auto shop (a.k.a. Trak Auto - Is it Advance Auto Parts now?) and buy it for a couple bucks.

And the answer to your question: Bad things would happen if you continuously drive without the gas cap on. Doesn't that burn your gas faster?

Your check engine light will come on. When you drive even with a loose gas cap it pops in. Sensors there due to emissions regulations.

There is also a good chance that water gets into the tank, not good.

Talking

Also a small chance of gasoline vapor + spark = kaboom (actually more likely a Lex with a flaming gashole; exploding cars are mostly movie fiction).

Yes it is I will be buying one tomorrow from the dealer. $26 for the Gascap and $41 for the CD changer magazine that is ALSO missing.

But i still dont understand why the check engine light is NOT coming on when im driving with a gas cap... ? can anyone provide some input? could it be a sensor that was removed or a blown fuse? help please.. i want to make sure that this car is in perfect or close to perfect running condition.. Dont want any horrible surprises later on..

It sometimes takes a while to pop on. I think it actually pops on faster with the cap not on tight / partially on because the little internal metal flap that covers that gas tank is opened.

IMO, just get a new gascap and don't worry about it.

BTW, I edited an earlier post of yours. Please do not continue to curse in your posts like that on CL.

Jucee187 is cool, like dbox, he is from the CL-S forum. They are joining the darkside 1 by 1.....

Dude, u can buy a gas cap or cartridge anywhere, u don't have to get them from the dealer. It is cheaper that way for the same item.

Glad to have ya around
