So this weekend I am hopefully going to be replacing the starter on my 99 gs400. I have been fighting the click of death for over a month now so it is time. While I am in there I will be replacing the upper and lower intake gaskets since I have to pull them anyways. What else should I be on the lookout for while I am in there? Any hard to get to and brittle vac lines will be replaced with silicon line I know. Anything beyond that?
Before doing this job. You should blow all derbis out the engine crevices. It will ensure nothing gets into the ports on the heads. I would change the knock sensor out while at it too. I found some good ones on eBay as a set.
I forgot the brand, but they have an M stamped on them.
Also check your fuel injector orings they could be worn out too.
Take care disconnecting the vac lines too under the intake manifold,

I thought about doing them also. Had to do the ones on my wife's sienna recently. Royal pain. So good point I'll do them too!
I'm not usually in the practice of making a job bigger than it has to be, but since you're taking the intakes off it would be a good idea to clean them out before putting them back on. If you have the intake off, I'd recommend cleaning the O2 sensor.

I looked into my PayPal last night. The seller is no longer listed on eBay. The ones I got said OEM Denso in the description. At $34.99 a piece I would look to a reputable vendor if definitely buying from eBay. If I remember correctly the wiring harness is not removable it's part of the main harness. It's been about 4 years since I did the swap when the starter went bad. The knock sensor size is 1 1/16" or 1 1/8" socket size I really can't remember at this time.
