Starting problem
My 1999 GS300 has this wierd starting problem. It doesn't start after it sits for a while (4+ hours.)
I have a new battery and all the electronics are in great shape. I believe it has something to do with the shifter linkage. I used to have an 89 Ford Probe that when you put it in park the trans wasn't quite in the "central neutral "position. In other words the car didn't think you where trying to start it in the right gear.
You had to put it in neutral then start it.
The reason I say I think it's the shifter linkage is I didn't have this problem until I replaced the original plastic bezel with the chrome one. The chrome one really didn't fit perfect. The guy I bought it from (can't remember his name but he is a CL member) must have broken off the tabs on the left side of the bezel. I had to slide it in on the right and place small pieces of 3M tape on the left to hold it down (don't worry you couldn't see the tape I was careful I know it's a Lexus.) It never sat right.
I called the service dept. at Meade Lexus and explained my situation. They told me that the shifter linkage is electronic and the bezel actualy keeps everything lined up.
My question is if I put back the plastic one do you guys think it will be "lined up" again or I have to take it in the Meade and have them reconfigure some stuff?????? Really don't want to pay that $80.00 an hour mininum 2 hours of service.
Meade will not give you a definite answer over the phone they must see it and charge you $200.00 dollars to tell me "Yeah it's the plastic thingy, put it back on and your all set."
Any help guys.
Ask for Steve.
