i also hear that 01-05 gs air bag will directly mount up to 01-03 rx steering wheel but the connectors are different bc gs is double stage and rx is single stage.

has anyone heard this as well?

The picture is from a GS430 page, not mine. Yeah u can always just swap out the ignitor unit if it's different.

Yes the 01+ RX will fit the 01+ GS.
And yes the RX is a single stage and the 01+ is 2 stage. The plug will not fit. But if your current airbag is still intact you can swap over the explosive to make it compatible.

So wouldn't I have to transfer over the explosive from the 01-03 rx airbag?

Once again this half truth is floating around! Not all 01+ Ate two stage! I have a 02 and mine is single stage. The 03 SD is single stage. OP quit being lazy and search. This has been covered multiple times since 2001 along with a bunch of DIY with pics. I did this upgrade a couple of weeks ago with the help of the old threads on this site. If you plan on getting a wood wheel, low balling the seller won't work haha.

I'm sure is single stage. Just put your airbag on the rx and go from there. It's not rocket science. Even if your car is dual stage you are putting your airbag back on your car so everything will fit. Read the threads here to educate yourself
