Default rear door problem HELP!!!!!

I'm having what seems to be an electrical problem with the back door. When I open the door, it does not trigger the dome lights to go on. I can't seem to find a switch of any kind which depressess when closing the door. This seems like a minor thing but it's more of an inconvenience because it's tough to see in the car when I use the back seat for storage. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You got a bad door actuator and your car still under warranty.

actually this is on the wife's 98 GS and it's no longer under factory warranty. I was hoping it would just be a quikie fix but from the sound of things it sounds like it's beyond my technical expertise. Thanks for the info by the way.

My wife's 98 GS4, had the same problem and we caught it during warranty period. I would suggest talk to the service consultant, as the problem is in the part ... I am assuimg that it never worked for you from day one ... just like it didn't for us.

BTW it can be dangerous too as the door ajar warning does not come on, when you drive with the back door open.

My 98 GS4 has the exact same problem. according to my dealer, the service manager told me it is a command GS problem. even I got it fixed under warranty, but he sounds to me that would be some kind of recall. (not exact like recall because they never did that). So just ask your dealer. maybe even u are out of warranty, u can still get it fixed without charge

can the door actuator be easily changed with typical garage tools? is it accessible? I couldnt seem to locate any mechanism ouside the framing of the door.

See my safety concerns couple posts up. People with this problem may get more leverage based on safety issue. The red warning lamp in the dash (actuated by door ajar), has helped us with the kids in the back.

Kids are a good reason.
