Default ABS kicks in every time i brake

98' GS400 with 320K km on on it.

I thought it's my front rotors and pads which came to its end of life but after replacement i still get the same thing. ABS kicks in a fracture of a second just before the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Its very annoying, especially on the street with 5 stop signs. I spoke to mechanic and he said it must be the sensor but doesn't know which one.

Has anyone experienced same problem? Any ideas what needs attention?

yes I have that same issue everytime with my 98 gs4. I started a thread on this an everyone said that its common for our cars to do that so its almost normal??.... is yours actually like kicking your brake back or does it make that weird noise as if its about to turn on? honestly I just left it like that an it doesn't always occur everytime I hit the brakes but it does happen often

I would check the brake fluid level and maybe bleed the brakes as a start.

Easy fix. My mechanic stated it is the wheel speed sensor. There are magnets at the ends which pick up metal shavings which hinder the sensor from read. Clean of the shavings and your good. My car use to do this constantly. Now no more noise.

Check all 4 to be sure.

Happening to me right now.

I got it diagnosed . thought it was the hub. Changed it and it came back.
Upon further review it was the teeth in my hub that the speed sensor reads are worn. So it's miscounting.
Very annoying

You could have an internal leak with your brake master cylinder. Can you push your brake pedal all the way to the floor with the car in park and turned on?

Kosi....Rich fixed mine. Give him a call. He explained it to me and showed me pictures of my sensors full of shaving. Easy fix. Its doesn't trigger a code or light.
