I have no clue what's going on..

1st my check light is on in the dash for the tails

2nd I smell something burning on my way work! I open the trunk to see whats going on and I smell something bad. Those stupid relays or giant resistors that cane with the lights had smoke coming out of them. And them only been installed for one day! Anyone have any clue wtf?

I know the resistors are known for getting really hot and burning the trunk liner.

What some folks do is just take out the resistors and pull the bulb from the dash........Problem solved

so the resistor is just there to keep the error light from coming on? i mean that resistor is a piece of crap anyways. if thats the case ill go pull it.

Nothing will burn out if i bypass the resistor huh?

Nope, the purpose of the resistors is to clear the error light. But for some reason (not sure if its all) depos still throw the error. Nothing will burn out just gotta check now and then if your bulbs or leds are out, no more warning. Just like the normal way lol

Tried those resistors for a day and wasn't comfortable with how hot they got. Seems too hazardous for me so I removed them. You'll be fine without them. Just remove them

I've had mine for 4 years no problems.

Did you get Depo or Insurance Depo? I'm sure the 4 brands that sell these are all made from the same manufactures with different names, however, I've read countless times that those with the Depo tails pretty much always have the same problem with those gel packs, some dont even get them.

You can de-pin one of the plugs in the harness so that your light out bulb on the dash wont come on..

For what its worth Ive had my depos for 8+ months now with no issues.

I have the same Insurance/Depo taillights and I'm still using the resistors and its been working perfectly pretty much perfectly since I bought it. I just recently put them up for sale because I wanna change it up. If anyone is interested here's the thread.

i wanna pick up these tail lights! (Many of you are buying from the ebay seller coco something right?)

the only thing is im one of those people that HAVE to run a resistor (i.e. dont want to pull the bulb, or de-pin the harness)

Guess I'll just stick to OEM

Some of us are waaaay too picky. That error light doesn't bother me at all. I know why it's lit. As long as the check engine light isn't on, I could care less. Why spend even more money on another resistor when you have proof here that they simply are not needed? If that bulb bothers you that much to have to go out and spend more money, then be my guess...your whip. Kinda **** to spend more money just to have a light go out.

When I do something I do it 100%. I wanna do it right the FIRST time.

Electrical taping over the slot is going to be tacky and bug my everyday.I guess thats just my mentality that I drive a Lexus. She gets the best.
