Default Brake Fail

Hello guys,

To make a story short, my brake went bad on me last Saturday while I was pulling into the Target store parking lot. Luckily, I was not driving on the high way with my five months old baby and wife during the brake failur. Anyway, I have search and search this forum on how to fix it. No engine light was on only the brake and VSC lights were on with the buzzing sound. I found the Master Brake Cyliner/Booster Pump used for $355 on the 2000 GS400 with 78k miles on it from the junkyard from Texas. I also quote from the dealer for MBC alone is $1135.42, Booster Pump alone $1234.74, and if I would to get the whole unit; it will cost me$ 2092.47. What do you guys think? The used one only warranty for 30 days. I heard that the MBC/BP could fail at a lower milage for this GS98 t0 2000 model. Should I just the the MBC without the Booster Pump, or should I get both just in case the booster pump about to be on its way too? Oh, my GS400 98 got 1754398 miles on it.

I am planing on replacing the parts myself. After I install everything, how do I reset the brake and VSC light? Can I do it myself or something that I have to bring it to the dealer to reset for me? Also, should I be aware of anything during removing and installing the parts? All advices are welcome, guys. I know you are the expert on this forum and you're all been very helpful since I joined this Clublexus. Thank you to all of you for your supports.

You might want to put some more cash for a 01+ unit?

All of the 98+ GS3 or GS4 units are not all bad nor do they all fail.

Is there any more fuses location beside the one at the driver side next to the brake paddle and in the engine compartment near the battery that I should check fot this issue? I heard that one is located under the steering wheel column, but I am not sure. Pls guys I need your advises before I pick up the part. Also, does 2001 GS model will fit the 1998 model? Do I need any modification or it's tight fit? Thank you guys.

The 01+ brake models and 98-00 models are "interchangeable". The only difference that many people note is to change out this sensor, now if that sensor is bad then you'll know.

The problem was solved in the 01+ models of the brake booster/master cyl.

Thank you. Will it throughs any light after the senor change? If that is the case, I will find out how much it cost? Also, any more fuses box you recomend to take a look at? I looked at those two fuse boxes and could not find any broken one. Do you anywhere else like under the steering wheel column like people siad? Thank you.

The ABS ecu is under the steering column area, I'm not sure about fuses. The fuses that are in the car are on either side of the front lower footwell.

Also, under the hood there is a box on the upper part of the driver side, also near the battery terminal.

I'm not an expert by any means, you should get the car scanned and let the OBD codes do the talking.

Thank you, again. I scanned it, but the read zero on the scanner. Do I need to push the brake paddle during scanning? There is no engine light lids up. My friend told me that there no code being scan, because the engine light was lid up. I don't know that was true or not.

Aslo, I check with the dealer there are two part number for GS430 01 model: 47050-30220 and 47050-30160. Which one does it fit the GS400 98 model? Thank you for you help. You mention that you have one MBC/Booster pump for sale? How many miles on it, and what model is that one? Thanks.

Yes, We were very lucky for that matter. I think he pulled it on the ODBII but it is an older version. I have not bring it to autozon/peboys for a code scan yet. May be after work today. Also, I am lean toward the new MBC system due to the fact that the older model could fail at any time which we don't know when just a matter of time. I wil tate your recomendation to go with the 01 model instead to minimize the brake system failure with the old model. Thank you so much for you help and all the CL members. Thanks.

As I understand 98 model up to 01 are interchangeable, how about 03 for 98? I have 98 and found out MBC from 03 gs300. Will it work?
Thank you.
