Default Nav sys update

Ok I have the factory nav system and it hasn't been updated since 2001. Is this something I can do or do I need to take it to a dealer to get updated? I looked through the dyi and couldn't find any info on it. Also once it's updated, any visible changes besides the additional roads for the map? Also what does that trunk hard drive do?

its more than that

http://lexus.sewellparts.com/accesso...2001/4973.html

i update mine every 2-3 years...if you havent changed it since 2001 though gonna be a huge difference to the newest disc. i think i have a 5.0 disc or a 7.0 disc at the house (i need to check)

i have a gen 4 and while it is MUCH better, its not worth replacing his working gen 3 to a gen 4 just cause its better. i mean its like 300-600 for the gen 4 PLUS a new disc so 160+ s/h so a total of, lets see, at a minimum 460 +s/h and maximum 800 compared to just 160 + s/h. that makes no sense...

thanks, I will and have been using those link, couldn't find anything on the nav system though, that's why I posted this. WHen U updated the nav system is it just changed the streets and add stuff or does it actually change your other things like your system information for fuel milage etc?

Just updates the maps. Also removes the moving car lockout manual override. If you don't use it now you will not miss it.

Upgrading to a Gen 4 unit does add some addition options and features but some can not be used. It does look relatively newer which would really be the only reason I can think of to do it.

I found some phone number storage/dial feature. There may have been others that I don't recall.
