version number is not the problem, the part number is. of course you want the lastest version number, but make sure the part number ends in 3x. that's what i have read so far

it doesn't work even if you put back the old dvd?

i am surprised coz' you have a gs430 with 01-02 gen nav. i know someone who has the same setup as you, the new disc just gave him error msg, and when he put back his old disc then everything was back to normal

Nope, what happened was the new disc upgraded the system so there's no way of going back to the original disc. I have the blue disc fyi.

Also, the nav between 01 and 02 is different! That same disc works on my friend's 02 but does not work on my 01. One way to spot the difference is on the initial screen since mine only has "i agree" while my friend's nav can choose between "english", "french", and "i agree". Maybe he has gen 3 and mine is gen 2?

I've already looked at every nav upgrade post on CL and still sort of confused. However, I think i do know now that there are two different kind of discs with the same data, which is for update only (meaning having the old blue disc and upgrading) and one is no upgrade (meaning that you bought a 2003 GS430 with the newer data version, but this disc won't work if you are upgrading from the 2001 GS since we have the blue disc????).

I am still not 100% sure whether i know what i am takling about..but pls correct me if i am wrong. All I know is i am desperately searching for a "update" disc that will fix my nav since the malfunctions and the freeze ups is killing mE!

I have an 01 430 and my disc isn't blue, it's black, not sure which version it is though but I've never done any upgrade.

Can you choose between english and french on yours?

I am now thinking that Lexus made the upgrade, from gen 2 to gen 3, during 2001. Maybe it depends on the build date of the car...i guess i got the earlier ones?

Default Update DVD vs Original DVD

Dave.....

I have come to the same conclusion. There must be an original DVD and an upgrade DVD.

For example, I have a 2004 GX. I can buy an upgrade for it. However, I feel certain that an original DVD from a 2005 wont work with it.

Therefore, when buying a used DVD, one must make certain that it is an "Update" DVD, not an "Original" DVD.

Those are the conclusions I have come to.

Is there anybody here who has successfully upgraded with an "Original DVD" ??

Default 2001 GS300 NAV Upgrade

FWIW

I just upgraded and replaced the NAV DVD from my 2001 GS300. DVD part # 86271-47020

Replacement DVD upgrade part # 86271-33032.

The software installed with no problems.

Does anybody know how I can edit my Home Address ??

Default 04 GX470 DVD works on 01 GS300

To my surprise, I discovered today that the Navigation DVD in my 2004 GX470 has the same DVD part # as the one that I purchased as an upgrade for my 2001 GS300.

DVD upgrade part # 86271-33032.
