My first Lex
Has Nakamichi stereo, factory rear spoiler. I don't know much else of options, most everything else to me as compared to my Cadillac and my Buick Park Ave Ultra would be considered std options.
Runs awesome. Suspension feels like something is a tad loose like a bushing, if I had to guess near the back of the wheel. Only over bumpier stuff. Will dig in when I get time.
Dislikes: (remember I am a GM guy, I had higher hopes for Lex on some of this stuff)
- Map lights (what, did they get this from a camry?) The whole upper light assy seems just plain cheap. It blinds me when I turn on at night, my Cadillac Fleetwood, Chevy Suburban and Buick Park Ave Ultra don't, the lights are recessed enough you don't have a blinding light lens to deal with.
- Can't figure out how to LOCK doors with key fob, have to use door locks inside car to lock, else all works ok.
You push the button and it keeps trying to unlock it. - Darn it if the left front speaker is blown, I can't figure out how I missed that. GRRR, I thought it was working (crackling and very low volume)
- Don't like how the wipers don't make a full sweep till edge of window unless in snow mode. That 3 inches of unwiped area is annoying on the front window. Camry's do that. Lex should not.
- No other gauges like oil press, volts, coolant with numbers. It IS a sport sedan right?
- Wheels are bland as you can get (base 16" 5 spokes). Gotta fix.... Anyone have any 16 or 17 chromes for sale? I want to keep close to stock there, I need sidewalls up here in the north. Potholes are as common as mosquitos.... A friend lost 2 rims/tires last winter with 17's. Another friend lost his 17 on his Mercedes. Owch. He has 18's now....
- My Buick has more options oddly enough. And its a Buick... ? What the? This is just wrong isn't it?
- Would like a little more music out of the tailpipes under acceleration. Easy enough....
- Shifter is a pain, the His/Hers in my 80 T/A is far better. I haven't really messed with the man shift mode much yet. Is the shifter supposed to be as stiff as it is or is that just lack of use?
- figured Nakamichi would have more power than it does.
- Miss my heads up display a LOT. Will have to get on my HUD project to make one for the GS....
Likes:
- Solid car
- Great power
- Rear Wheel Drive. GM has to figure this one out, not all people WANT front wheel drive. The Zeta platform is 10 years too late.
- Quiet, I can run the sunroof shade open and not complain about wind noise! COOL!
- Ride is fine, roads up here suck, stiffer would be annoying for daily commuting.
- Color is growing on me, still hard to believe I have it now
- Engine idles as smooth as they come.
- Handles nicely, a little tall for ride height, but that is common complaint right?
- Seats are comfortable, not like driving a sofa like every told me. Didn't think it would be.
- Has decent cupholders, need something!
- Love the big sunroof
- Factory HID's. Love em! Can I get HID's for the fogs? How do I make Fogs stay on when headlights are off and parking lights on for proper fog driving?
- might look for bigger sway bars, they are always welcome....
I know most things are petty, the way people praise Lexus makes me wonder what they are comparing to sometimes. And I see why people tend to stick to GM or to Ford or to Lex.
