Question BMW owner anamosities?

Ok, so I finished up a Viper 800 installation on a '95 328i and called the owner to come pick it up. First of all, this is a son's car, and the father drove him over (in a late model 7 series) to pick up the car. After going over the alarm, and showing them all of the features he looks over and sees my GS and asks if it is mine? Of course I tell him yes, and explain a few mods I have done. It was like Jeckel and Hyde after that, he actually looked upset that it WAS my car?? He then asked if I liked it and if I had any problems (of course yes, and no problems), then just kind of said, well, WE love how OUR bmw's handle. (The whole time kind of looking like he wished he had a GS, at least thats what I was thinking ) So he shows me his 7 series (a beatiful car no doubt), tells me that he got it because he got such a great deal...but then neglets to tell me what he paid? Anyways, I was wondering if anyone else on the board has had some GS envy from the BMW camp? Almost like they are angry that I didn't buy a bimmer!

Question Made 'em wonder

I think that you shook their world – here’s someone, an expert (at least on alarms) who chooses to drive a Lexus over a BMW.

They’re thinking “Why would an automotive expert chose anything except a BMW? Maybe he knows something we don’t know??”

Guess what? He do.

Wink hard to say for sure....

bmw, benz, lexus, and even infiniti(for its value) are all nice autos to a certain extent with its own positive attributes...i look at the total ownership experience(may be Lexus spoiler me a bit more over the past 7 years)...cannot say the same for bmw/benz....

perhaps it is because Lexus ads often target/eben challenge bmws...so hard core bmw philes will defend their rides...personally, i think they should be thanking Lexus for giving bmws good run for their money spent..without competition, there will be no improvement, or "free maintenance, for the 3-4 yrs, depends on made/model, bmws or benz"

fact: we had sales mgrs from both bmw and benz dealers called us and want to buy the SC and LS over the phone for their "personal" use...just imagine they can get the employee discont at their own brands/dealers, but they chose to drive Lexus.. certainly made me wonder....

i would buy a bmw or benz, if the prices were on par with Lexus, and the quality level is 80% toyota std. i do not think this is asking too much...after all this is the 100th anniversary for certain german car builder(cough, 3-pointed star), and you would hope by now they figured out how to build a good AC unit and keep it cold, or bulbs that work within the first few years...

Wink Re. Lex envy;)

Hey dude. That guy is just wishing he hada Lex. that's all
From my exp. I get alot a BMW guys either saying Hey thats really nice or jealous looks. (Haters) I'm totallly serious, peeps that jus don't like to see a GS rock a BMW or Benz. What can ya do
Some of the real enthusiasts BMW guys know what the GS can do & come over & check it out like normal people who don't have issue problems. They do respect & admire a well done Lex.

By the way I drive a 02M3 & more people talk to me about my Lex.

Anyone that knows anything about cars will know thats Lexus is what it is cracked up to be, a japanese car competing w/ the german cars head to head. I was at our BMW dealership, some guy that works there, maybe a sales rep, maybe someone else... but he was very interested in my SC400, oh is that your car, yes, oh how do you like it, love it, runs great, no problems, then he tells me oh the reason I am asking is that I am looking at a red one right now.
The people that don't like lexus are people that don't know anything about them... atleast thats my opinion.

I have to agree with everyone's posts so far. The more I think about it , I come to the conclusion that they (Bimmer owners) are happy initially about their purchase, but when it comes service time (more often than not in their case), that is when they start getting angry at the lexus camp. They realize that all that money they just spent for a badge on the front just meant that they would spend twice the time needed in the service dept. of that oh-so-nice dealer that took them the first time! I happen to love how the Bimmers look, and they actually drive quite well, I just don't have the pockets to afford the maintenence and service they require - it would leave me with no extra $$ for mods!

I, too, agree with what's been said here. I came from the opposite direction--I traded in my BMW for a Lexus. When I initially got my Bimmer I thought, "Now, THIS is livin'! I can't believe that measly old ME has a BMW!" 43 trips to the service department and 2 1/2 years later, I was happy to be rid of the thing. In my admittedly limited experience, BMW knows how to built great-performing cars but either doesn't know how or doesn't care to build high-QUALITY cars.

So maybe those BMW owners looked at your Lexus, they know that performance-wise it's ABOUT the same, and they wonder if the legendary reputation for rock-solid quality and total luxury is actually true...

Im sorry..i just dont consider a 7 series and a 328 cars to be put on a pedastal for handling.
I would trade in my GS...for one BMW. The M5. Actually, unless Lexus comes out wiht a 400 hp version of the next gen GS, that is what will actually happen.

I have loved the dependability of hte GS4, however having come from a family of devout MB owners, I can accept the cost of maintenance in exchange for the ultimate sports sedan.

Hope it wasn't the latest 7 series cuz that car is ugly as sin. A LOT of M3 owners are furious with Chris Bangle and his screwed up design for the new 7 series. It's not even selling very well and encountering new car problems...And yes my other car is a BMW...Both have there pluses and minuses...

Oh my God, I hope you are seriously JOKING ?????

You think I would be THAT ignorant of a car enthusiast that I am such a BRAND loyalist???

If you are not kidding, then I find it pretty hilarious that you think that I must be loyal to EVERY SINGLE BMW model there is...

Does that mean you totally think the ES300 is the superior car in its class just because you own a Lexus - even though we all know that it's a glorified V6 Camry???

That's got to be either one of the most hilarious jokes or one of the most ignorant comments that I have ever heard. You should be happy that I am not some BMW jerk that puffs my chest out and thinks all BMW model's are superior than other cars. WHAT THE HECK IS A BMW TRAITOR???? Is BMW a country??? Does BMW stand for some moral principles? Should I be sent to jail or hung just because I think the new 7 series is ugly? That's where flames start and I think you trying to start one yourself...

What? That is my point... the new 7 IS leader in it's catorgory for every part, it's a revolutionary car. You like the LS430 better???? Or the S500??? I've seen/driven these cars...just a joke compaired to the 7.

Revolutionary yes...Have you sat in one and tried to start it? Complicated as heck - but very trick for sure... It's not that that bugs me...

The rear of that 7 series is UGLY! It will take me a while to get used to it...

I don't care if it has all the techno gadgetries - it is a flat out ugly car...

And, like I said, dealers have had a ton of them in the service bays for a variety of problems and they have been selling for near invoice because they can't move them fast enough. These are facts so I am assuming other BMW owner's agree with me as well. I just hope Chris Bangle doesn't screw up the 5 series as well!
