I just picked up the IS250 / 350 rims today for my GS300 and am about to mount them on, but i was just wondering after the mount should i get an alignment since the stock rims i had were 16" and now i'll have 18"s?

Any help is appreciated!

 

yes, always a good idea to when you change rims. depends on the rolling diameter too, so calculate what the new rolling dia is compared to your stock rims and see. but even so the new rims will likely be heavier etc so they will probably effect things even if it is slight.

well another thing is that, on the stock wheels i had, both the tires on the front were actually wearing out on the outside more. so although it feel ok now, i should get a alignment no?

 

the money for an alignment is surely cheaper than te money for new tyres...it cant hurt to align it imo

 

I upgraged my wheels from 17 to 19 AND repalces OEM Shocks/Springs with DF210/KYB GR2 without needing an Alignment and the car is just find. I could have gotten free alignment but don't needed since it's doesn't need alignment. I've been driving the car for like 4 months now.

 

Well, OP said that he had problems with his original tires. YES! do get an alignment.

 

I changed springs and shocks last summer and after doing so, the car drove just as well as it ever did. Smooth, straight, no shimmy, no vibrations. About four months later (about 3000miles) I swapped over to my winter tires. Had a look at my summers and the insides were well worn. I effectively ruined two Dunlop SP9000($$$) tires because I didn't have the alignement checked after the suspension mod. Moral of the story, the car may drive just fine but the alignement can still be off.

You should get an alignment because you had a previous alignment problem. Not because you put on new wheels. Wheels don't change the alignment settings. The suspension geometry remains the same no matter what rims/tires are on the car. Lowering the car, however, changes your suspension geometry and requires an alignment. It is recommended you align your car once a year if you have bad roads. At least every other year would be a good idea though. Normally, if your alignment was good and you just swapped rims, you don't need an alignment, but since you already had an alignment problem its a good idea to get one now.
