Default Car not starting guys ....

1999 Gs400

Ok I have search the whole boards and some on Google ..

I started the car and then it died after 5 mins ...

Then as I go to start I have issues having it start again ..

further attempts = dead battery

Once I got a new battery I was told I should clean the MAF sensor and clean the TB, Also replaced the battery with a new one ..

I have done all the above ..

I got a code reader and it was telling me this ...
______________________________________
p0100 maf or vaf circuit malfunction
p0110 air intake temp circuit malfunction
p1120 no def available
______________________________________
I have replaced the MAF sensor tonight and I still have a dead car ... I have unplugged battery for 5 mins .. is that long enough ?

any information would help ...

after searching some more I found this code ...

P1120 TP Sensor Out Of Range Low (Ratch Too Low)

Is there any way to remap the Maf sensor ? I don't have a Manuel but any help will be appreciated. where would the VAF circuit and the cost of those ? or a way to trouble shoot

James

i would assume the VAF is either velocity air flow or vortex air flow (as in the KV type of sensor). I would leave the battery disconnected at least 15min to ensure the ecu resets properly. If you're getting MAF, intake temp, and TPS codes, your problem is likely between the maf and TB/Drive-by-wire system. if your TPS is reading too low, check all your cables and such to make sure everything is correct. What I can gather from those codes is that the computer is not able to read the throttle's position, thus not able to accurately calculate the amount/speed of air coming in, or the temp.

It's entirely possible that if everything else is in order, you may need a new TPS or even ECU. I had an ECU go bad on my old maxima and it gave similar symptoms (never had trouble starting but A/F was thrown off so horribly that it would miss on almost all 6 cylinders and burn through 14 gallons of gas in a weekend.)

unplug the MAF and see if it starts...you might try disconnecting the O2's as well, it should force in into open loop, and if it starts, then you know you have a problem with the MAF

you just replaced it from the connector right? who knows..you could have a broken or damaged wire anywhere from the connector to the ecu...

even with a new battery the draw from starting the car would be a lot, especially if you left your radio, lights, interior lights etc. on, thus a bad alternator could also be the problem. Take it to autozone and have it tested.

Early GS400s have leaky power steering pumps that drip onto the alternator about a drop a day until the alternator dies. It happened on my last GS.
