Experiment
I have averaged 19-20 mph for as long as I have owned my 98 GS3 (110k miles). Summer or winter in Chicago - makes no difference.
With the price of gas what it is, I wondered if driving in snow mode in summer months might save fuel.
We all like to drive a little (or alot) agressively, but I am going to experiment with my next fill-up. I am going to put a sticky-note on my gauges to remind me to switch to snow mode every time I drive. I normally refill at about 325 miles on every tank of gas. I will report the results in a couple of weeks (I travel out of town alot so I don't put on very many miles).
I invite others to join in the experiment (if you have the patience!).
I also ask if anyone would speculate as to the results. Will it be worth it?
Wish me luck! Thanks.

in just guessing based on my personal experiences i would say it might actually hurt your mpg's... i lived in the denver colorado suburbs for 2 winters with my gs4 and on snow days would often drive in excess of 70 miles in a day all in snow mode.. i think i actually noticed worse mpg's and the only reason i can come up with is that snow mode keeps you in a higher gear than necessary in order to have the high rpm's slow you down rather than the braking and i know that driving in a higher rpm than necessary will hurt your mpg... snow does slow down your acceleration but mainly by starting you out in like 3rd gear and not applying so much torque. i would recommend manual shifting or actually paying attention to your rpm's and not letting them get above like 2300 while accelerating if you want to see a difference.
someone just had a post about his gs300 and how he got 38mpgs out of a tank of gas by not accelerating above 2200 rpms for the whole tank of gas... this would def be the best method for trying to save on fuel consumption that i can think of. i just need to stop racing every mustang, m3, and acura i can find and then i might get better mpg's. i think my exhaust and intake actually increased my mpg's
you don't have to use premium in a gs3 right? just regular right? nor sure about gs3 but i can only use premium and i tested this theory to no avail a while back as well with very negative results and don't recommend it to anyone.

I wish I could get 20 mpg in the city with my 430 ... best I've ever gotten was 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway ... I'm going to try the whole low rpm thing though and see what I can get ...
Yes I do. In fact, I'm the guy someone would want to buy a used GS from because I baby my cars. I enjoy everyone else's mods and perfromance improvements. But with four kids (three still in college), extra $$ for my car is better spent elsewhere. But someday...
And, yes, I'm an old guy.
