Default HELP!!!! Navi Climate Control Failed Other Elec. Failures!

It started to snow today so it's pretty moist out. I warmed the car for about 20 min, drove for about 30 min, and then stepped out of the car to go inside the store (car still running), jumped back inside, and the Navigation Screen had frozen, but the buttons still worked. When i went to change the climate control for the fan and temp, the buttons didn't work, and they wouldn't change my touching the screen. Any idea what may be wrong or how to fix it?

John

It happened to me twice with either extremely cold or hot weather. But both times when I shut the car off and on again it was ok. If it continues to be broken then you will have to check if its your screen that went out or something else that controls the screen.

Default Help

Ok, well i came back out after work today and the car battery was dead. I know as a result of a dying battery, the electronics in the car start to malfunction and shut off first (i.e. lights, navigation, guages jump)...Well i jumped the car, and the now strange stuff is happening. The interior door light won't come on while the headlights are on, if i shut them completely off, then the interior lights will come on, but the radio and headlights shut off. This is driving me crazy. I am going to completely charge the batter tomorrow and see what happens! Anybody out there have any advice as to what else it may be? Do you think the battery is the issue? Also, the climate control buttons came back on with no problems after the car was jumped, but after parking it and shutting the car back off, they froze again!

Yup, sounds like an alternator to me as well.

If it is, dealer wants $700 without labor, autopart stores are around 350 and on ebay theres a guy out of CA that rebuilds them and you can get one for $120. Mine went out last month.

I think your nav problems are unrelated to the electrical system, try a battery reset to cure this.

Thanks for all the help, i'm going to be replacing the alternator to see if this is the fix for my problem. I've had similar issues and it seemed to cure itself, but they were battery related, i'm thinking my alternator is finally gone, so i'm gonna swap it out. Thanks again, and if there are any more suggestions, please post!

Start your car.

While your car is running disconnect the battery.

If the car continues to run your alternator is good, if it dies out then its bad.
