I've done the replacement twice. On the same door. It seems the cheap motors fail too. Just a heads up.

Yeah, the motors used to replace them will ultimately fail... They're the same motors that failed the first time.

That's why it's not worth going to lexus to pay them $600 to do the job.

Again, on ebay (Sort by price + shipping, lowest first), you can get these for fairly cheap by typing in fc-280pc-22125. If $8 (AFTER shipping) isn't cheap to you, then I really wonder how you got a car in the first place... no offense.

The real problem is that mabuchi, nichibo, super jack, etc... never made a motor with these specs that worked better. If they did, then you'd definitely see them out there by now.

I replaced 3 of my doors, and, knock on wood, they haven't failed after several months. I got mine on ebay. If they fail, I'll def. post to let everyone know the lifespan on mine.

The problem might be the door lock limit switch.
If the car does not know if it unlocked the door, it keeps trying to unlock it, and you are right the motor will get hot.

Hi GS forum,

I have 94 Lexus SC400 however my passenger side actuator has gone bad.
I already asked on SC forum about the motor used in SC door actuator but no one gave
me a reply... So I want to give a try here since someone who knows about it might
give me an answer here.
Does SC400 door actuator use mabuchi motor used in GS?
I asked the ebay seller about this and he "said" all lexus models should be using same
mabuchi motor listed on this thread.
Thanks in advance~!

Steve

I have an RX 300. I couldn’t find just the motor, so I “bit the bullet” and went to the dealer and bought the replacement assembly. They would not separate the motor component from the whole assembly. This is where the rip-off comes into play. The parts retail at $300 and my dealer wanted $200 labor. I did the labor myself and saved the $200. Probably most of us DIYers get a perverse pleasure when we can beat the dealership at its own game. The replacement assembly has everything bundled together adding to the cost including the cables which would probably never wear out in your lifetime. In short, the plastic motor and housing could easily have been designed as a Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) at a reasonable price instead of having to buy “the whole enchilada” at dealer prices. So, it is up to you to gamble a few bucks vs. $500.

There are enough posts in this forum so you can track down the correct motor and places to look to remove the door panels. Chances are good that the motors used in this forum will be universal. It is cheaper for Lexus to have one vendor supplying one motor than it is to stock a different motor and assembly for each vehicle. However, I think someone mentioned a motor with a reversed polarity that should be avoided. If possible, go to the dealer and ask for a discarded unit and dissect it. You might also inquire at this URL.

^Well you didn't have to buy the entire unit with cables and 'everything'. You could have just purchased the actuator itself, which runs around $70ish. Much cheaper than the $300 you quoted.

I tried cajoling the parts counter guy into doing something so that I wouldn't have to buy the whole assembly. No deal. It was the entire assembly or nothing. That irked me to no end. The most aggravating part was that the motors, when bought in large quantities go for agout 30 cents each!!!!

$500 dollars for a 30 cent part.

what do you expect him to do? something that will get him fired to help you save some $.....doubtful that will happen

yeah if by large quantities you mean by the thousands....i priced like 200-500 of these with several companies as i was willing to buy them in bulk and sell them off and buying them in quantities of 200-500 i couldn't get them down to ANYWHERE near that price
