NVM I thought you meant removing the actuator itself from the assembly while it was still in the door.....

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I spent my black Friday getting halfway thru the front actuator, and hope to finish tomorrow.

When taking the gray gear off the original motor, the top part of the gear cracked and broke. I think I still have enough of the gear to be usuable, but am obbiously nervous.

What is the best way to ensure the gray gear fits onto the shaft of the new motor? I have blue loctite at home- would that work? How should I apply it?

Thanks for all the tips. I'm crossing my fingers on this.

you guys are crazy. but the write up is great if your handy and want to save like #00 bucks, just very time consuming the write ups way.
the part brand new from lexus is $290.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LEXUS...Q5fAccessories i bought this and changed it in under 40 mins and my lock is fine now. mine happened to be the drivers door lock.

 

^Why would you buy the entire assembly when the actual actuator on rockauto.com is only like $70 dollars?

 

because look at all the crap involved. i spent a lil more and i was done in 30-40 min's while im sure anyone that changed the actuator has taken all day to change it out

 

I took my rear door panel off, fidgeted around to get the actual assembly out (That took the most time to figure out how to remove it), then unscrewing the actuator assembly from the stock parts and putting the new one on maybe took 10 mins tops? Reverse the order and put it all back in. Total time if you know what to do takes maybe 30-45 mins?

 

to me it looked like changing just the actuator was way more complicated then changing the whole thing. so i did the whole thing new. i didnt know the part and or where to get just the actuator, but now my passanger side went are all the actuators the same model number for all the doors? what is the model # an or where to order it ill try just the actuator this time on the passanger.

Rock auto seemed to be more expensive than I last remember. Heres another one I found online: http://www.dealerdirectparts.com/Pro...060370-GS300-4 It's for the rear left, which I assume is the rear 'drivers side' actuator.

i am looking on thsi site. for the front drivers to see if it is the same part # and it looks like its more expensive for the drivers door? is it because it is the main door to all the locks in the car? i would have thought the controls itself did that.

Well I'd figure its the one that gets opened and closed the most. Think about it, when you open your car you hit the unlock button once, which opens the drivers door, then a second time to open the rest of the doors. So the drive one is the most used, but I can't see that as justifying the price being higher as well. It's the same on Sewell's Parts website, the driver side rear one costs more than the passenger side rear one. Makes no sense to me why.
