Default replace car battery?

today my car wouldn't start.....no lights, no dash lights, even the tilt steering wheel wouldn't budge...no clicking noise either.....so im guessing its the car battery that needs to be replaced. i had it jump started and let it run for about 15mins and eveyting is fine. (hopefully it will start up when i leave work today)

i really hope its not the starter, but im pretty sure its just the battery.

my question is:

- what type of car battery is a good replacement? what voltage? brand? etc.
- also, where is the best place i can find a good replacement battery for a good price? autozone? costco?

any info/help will be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I'd put my money on it not starting tonight. Better have a backup plan!

You can take the battery to Autozone or Checker and they can check it for free. Might just need to be put on a charger for a few hours. That is also free.

If you need a new one... I would recommend Interstate. They are about the best I have found. They should be around $100-125.

Yea, my factory 84 month Lexus battery just went out and I put in the Optima red top. I bought it at Sams Club for like $117. If you go with the Optima, make sure you buy it with the spacer so that it sits up high enough.

So Lexus has a warranty on the battery? I didn't think so because thats a maintenance item just like brakes or oil. If they do then I guess it's good news for me. I think I just about killed my original battery already and my alternator is having some troubles.

Hopefully they will still cover me, but I have a highly upgraded sound system in my car so they might not. Oh yeah, not to mention my HID lightshow in from of my car with 6 HID's total . What do you guys think?

It's worth a try to get it replaced on warranty. Still, it sounds like you're going to need a better alternator and battery to truly solve the problem. I just picked up a new 180 amp alt. off eBay for the wife's RX for $215 shipped. Try searching there for Ace Alternators.

Optima Red Top, I got mine at Interstate Batteries, but only because Costco did not have the size I wanted (which would have been cheaper with them).

Lexus has an 84 months warranty on their batteries. I never went back there for the OEM battery though.

When mine went, I just went to Walmart and got one of their EverStart batteries. I got their top of the line one I think. It was the EverStart N1 Maxx or something like that? It has 1000 amps, and 875 cca. It's pretty good. They also have a few deep cycle batteries for those that are running heavy stereos.

yeah took it to sears, battery was tested and it was bad....replaced it w/ a die hard gold for $100....

whats the big deal about the optimas? sears was charging $190 for the optima red tops....i couldnt really jsutify the extra $90 for a silly battery....plus i hear that you need some spacer for it to fit?....are the optimas really that much superior to the other major brands like die hard, interstate, etc?

just curious

Just an FYI, Lexus warranties their batteries for the four years or fifty thousand miles. If the battery is replaced it is then covered with a prorating 84 month warranty, after the first two or three years hte labor and disposal fees are not covered.

I replaced my car battery about 6 months ago with a Optima Yellow Top, that is awesome battery. But the Red Top should work just fine. I've since sold the Yellow Top and I'm now running a Interstate which I can complain. I paid $115 installed for it and it works flawless!

Good luck tonight, hope she starts up!

I think there is really only one size. I just grabbed what they had and it had the spacer with it. Dropped it right in and everything works great.

The battery is shorter than your normal battery. It should come with a spacer that the battery will sit on, which in turn will raise it up. On some application, even with the spacer it doesn't lift high enough.

Just cut out two pieces of 2x4's and use that as a spacer.

Optima's are okay for stereo guys. The Supra guys actually don't like the Optima's. They prefer the thinner, yet effective, Odyssey's.
