Default Driver Side Mirror

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I've searched the entire forum for driver side mirror housing for a 1999 GS 400, but could not find anything. Does it have to be a GS400 housing case? Does anyone know of any side mirror housing that is compatiable?

Ebay and other sites are not helpful either. The dealer is charging me over $600 for the part alone (but I think it comes with mirror and housing whereas I just need the housing). If I pay that much, I'd like to at least have the side M3 type markers on the housing. Can anyone be of any help? How about the others who were also looking for the same part? Any luck?

Thanks

I have to ask, why is it that you need only the housing?

I ask this because the guts that are within the housing are quite integrated with the wiring harness. It is almost impossible to separate the housing from the internal guts without significant wire work and cutting.

You won't find the assembly broken down. I've purchased two mirrors so far and they come as a whole unit and not seperated.

Yeah that's kind of what I implied. I just said it in a completly different way.

I wouldn't think they came separate.

He could go to a junk yard and just get a whole assembly for less, than try to fix what he has.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the response. It's chipped pretty bad along the outside, and I guess I was lucky (or lucky depending on how you look at it) that there was no damage to the electrical wires or mirrors. I'm guessing it was cracked before I bought it, and it was hit again. I noticed a big piece chipped off when I got home from a shopping mall...the damage mustve been done in the parking lot. I guess I'll have to keep calling a local junkyard.

There was actually a picture I saw in this exact forum that had a replica of the damage I have to my mirror.

So on ones modded their GS with an M3 mirror? Or any other type of mirror thats compatible?

Do you mind if I ask you the price and if you purchased them brand new? Or used? And where you bought them from? I guess I already asked, but if you don't want to tell, thats cool.

Yes go to the classifieds now and you will see one for sale. There are some Asia Import mercedes style and there is the Japanese TOMs style.

This might be the best alternative to getting a new mirror.

I had the same problem, but on the passenger's side. It took awhile but I finally got one on eBay (used). I had to sand it down and re-paint it. It's not a perfect color match but it's close enough. If you can wait, then be patient and it will happen. Between the part, shipping and paint, I spent just under $100. Good luck.

RM, JZ, thanks! I'll just sit on Ebay, and wait for a used mirror or those Mercedes caps to drop in price.
