Default Auto-close problem with two windows.

This just started a couple months ago. Using the auto-up (1 click), when I click the switch to fully close the passenger window it goes up to about 2 inches of closing then rolls down and stops at half way down...half open. I first noticed the problem when I got into my car after finishing shopping and the passenger window was half open. I was like...damn it...I know I shut the window. That's when I started to pay attention and caught the action of reopening. If I wait for it to stop at the halfway point and try again...it will close on the 2nd or 3rd attempt. The window always works when doing the auto-open...it opens all the way.

A seconds note...I've noticed the auto-close feature for my sun-roof doesn't seem to work all the time. Meaning it will work some of the time, but not all the time. The auto-open always works...it opens all the way.

These two problems are very similar. Has anyone else experience this? Should I take it in to the dealer or can I fix this my self easily?

Both the sunroof and windows have auto roll back if they detect resistance on the motor which it translates as a potential body part. You may want to check the moldings around the window and make sure nothing is folding into the path of the window. Check similarly with the sunroof. I would start there.

If you have a tint film the problem is aggravated. Same root cause, sensor is detecting binding force.

Put WD-40 in between the weather stripping of the windows. that should fix it.

No tint on car. The window seems to go up and down very smoothly. No hesitation or any sign it's binding or catching on anything. I haven't done any maintenance to the weather strip. Maybe some silicone will help.

Auto close??!! I knew you could roll down the windows with the factory remote, but you can close them too? Or is this a mod. I hope it isn't. How do you do it?

No, not a mod. I'm referring to the 4-position switch on the arm rest....1st position is manual control, the full (or 2nd) position, either push all the way down or pull all the way up, is the auto open/close.

Oh. Yeah, I knew that. That used to happen to my sunroof. It would start closing, stop, and go back. I had to do that a few times before it closed completely. Took a rag wiped up where I saw any grit, used WD-40, cleaned again, and I've never had any problems since.

I've had this happen with the sunroof before, and it still occasionally does. In previous threads no one mentioned the resistence thing which makes a lot of sense. I'm going to check that out.

How I manage when it does occur is to hit the switch again just as the sunroof has slid forward and has begun rising up from the back. Pressing the switch again closes it without it coming back. I take it the resistence can't be detected with such a small displacement.

I wonder about this system though. If it detects resistence shouldn't it stop immediately rather than close all the way and open again?

There is a difference between backing of resistance and travel limit set [similar to the automatic garage door openers]. The limit set sequence has been posted somewher, unfortunately I dont remember where
