Just curious how much a good paint job would cost? There are a few nicks that went through the clear coat down to the meatal that are really bothering me.
Im looking at a new paint job around the end of summer too. Do you intend to paint the engine bay, door sills, etc? If not, and are only worried about the exterior, it may be less depending where you go. I was also told that, to save money, I may want to just do the panels that need the most work...the only problem is that it might not look right if some panels are new paint, and the others are the old.

I've heard that some body shops and places, take your gas lid and run it through a machine that will make a paint to match and it takes things like fading into account so that it should match your existing body paint exactly. Never really looked to much into it though so not 100% sure on how it all works, but most good body shops should be able to match the rest of the car.

If that were true, then that process would be ideal for me as I wouldnt have to pay for the entire car to be painted, just 3 panels...

I'm sure you could get it done. Plus if you think about it, when guys get new skirts and bumpers for their cars they have to get those painted, and most of the time they always match or when someone gets hit and they have to replace a fender or something if the works done right you can't even tell.
If you take it to a good shop, they will probably get it to match and/or re paint it until it's to your liking.
Can't say for a Lexus, but I've gone to 3 high quality shops for quotes here in Alaska to get my 58 VW convertible painted. Now we're talking no roof here, car has been completely disassembled, sand blasted, body work all done and primered. The body is still off the pan (frame) and will be trailered in in pieces so all they have to do is minor prep and shoot the paint. My quotes have been right around the $3500 range. This is for a pearl process, which many Lexus colors also have. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can go Maico or the sky is limit, but quality doesn't come cheap.
