Default range of your keyless entry?

it seems as if i have to be right next to the car for it to work. i changed the battery out on the key, but made no difference. on the is300, i could be halfway to africa and it will work. any suggestions or is this regular for a 98 gs4?

This was one of the first questions I asked here on this forum. My car at the time was brand new 2005 model from the dealer. Anyways, long story short the GS's keyless entry range sucks pretty bad.

Here is my post you can read up on https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=180230 ... theres a good 3 pages in there

Mine was getting pretty bad. I had to get about 3 feet away to get the doors to unlock. I just put a new battery in the key and now it is back to being only slightly sucky.

Hey TexasGS. I didn't get to see your car. Maybe I will get a chance to see it sometime this week?

I have been waiting for my 4th wheel to show up from UPS It is killing me to have 3 sweet wheels sitting in my garage and I can't put them on. I will shoot you a PM to discuss.

I get 20 to 30 feet of range off my key. It must be the air here in Cali. The smog helps to direct the beam. LOL!!!!

I tried the key to the chin trick and unlocked the car from so far away that....as I grabbed the door handle it locked itself. Which is 30 seconds of walking. I was at a 90 degree angle of the drivers side with a clear view in the parking lot.

It sure seems the range is directly related to what angle you are to the car.

On my 98 GS4, you literally had to be right on top of the car in order for it to work (I would say within 5-10 feet or so). On my 99, the range is much better (approx. 30-40 feet). I don't know why the 99 is better, because I don't think any changes were made. It seems pretty random to me.
