Default keyless entry system range?

Hi.... i'm a new member here.
and my english may not be good b/c i'm not a native speaker...
anyway... i own 98 gs300.. i've been driving this for 3 years....

how is your keyless entry work?
mine only work within short distance range...
ummm.... i'm not familiar with feet.... it only works about less than 10 meters or 10 yards...

i saw many other cars... that work well in long distance like even 20 meters...

is there any solution to that?

thanks guys...

that's a preoblem a lot of us have here. on the newer cars somehow they are better (my is300 and sc430 bot have awesome range), but some 98 and 99 gs the range is just poor. it's not the remote battery coz' i have changed them all. i don' tknow what it is, no one knows yet i think

Yeah , it ain't the battery. Both of our GS has very short range. I would guess about 2-5feet max . I'm kinda dissapointed about it cause my 01 celica had range about 3/4 block and its oem toyota remote.

my guess is something to do with the antenna inside the car, i think it's inside the c pillar. but never got the chance to take a look. i wonder if we take it apart and hook up a super long wire to it, would it help

Odd!, because before I replaced the battery in the remote, I was getting about a 5 to 10 feet range, now I am getting about a 50 feet range!

My range is very limited I use the "place key on watch" trick and gain about 5 feet or so but it gives you a small shock ( the things I do for my GS)... I personally think its the key/remote itself if we had an aditional box like some other cars the range would increase but since its all in one we get the short end of the stick but that key is so PIMP

Welcome to the group!!!

Try changing the battery....if that doesn't work, then I think you'll be in the same boat as the other members that have been having the same problem.

It's not the battery. I just bought two brand new master keys from the dealer, and the range sucks. By the way, a common trick to getting increased range out of any remote, is to point it underneath your chin while you press the button. I know it sounds silly, but your body acts as an antenna, and it really helps

According to my Lexus owners manual, the short range is typical. In my manual it says range is 3 meters.....(about 10 feet)...

Now it's funny how somebody claims that his remote works about up to 50 feet after changing the battery.....yet owners manual claims 10 feet. Well he has 00 GS so it maybe different?

My range increases a little when I hold the key above my head. Feels a little silly, but adds range.

it's not funny. like i said the same statement is written on my sc430 and is300 manual, but they work like stupidly far away. what they are capable has nothing to do with what they guarantee.

i did notice that my range got a tad better after replacing the battery on the remote (by maybe 1 ft? not much). and after i replaced the battery in the car the rnage got better too, by quite a bit. but it dies down pretty soon, so i am not sure if i got lucky or so
