Default Plastic Door Trim Problem

Fellas:

I know this has been discussed here, so maybe you can direct me where to go or offer a solution:

The plastic trim on the bottom of my driver's door is coming off and it hangs a bit and looks crappy.

Dealer quoted me $450 to replace that whole lower part of the door and it would have the trim.

Does anyone know if I can just buy the trim and if so, how do I install it?

What is the best solution?

Hoping for a low cost way to correctly solve this disturbing and unsightly problem.

Many thanks,

Ted

same thing happened to mine, you mean the plastic/rubber stripping thats colored to the car that you can see from the outside of the car right? only about 2 inches of mine was separated from the door. dont know how bad yours was...i just want to a car parts place and bought some of that waterproof rubber/plastic cement stuff and ran a really thin line of that along the top of the busted strip -nothing you could see from the outside or inside (cleaned it first to remove dirt that was stuck from being separated for a while) then i just held it in place for like a min so it bonded to the part it ripped from...its been fine since...like i said though if a bigger piece of yours is ripping off or you actually are missing part of it already, thats a different storry...

If so, I ordered both sides, from Carsons Toyota around 4 months ago
22.00$ each side,
Part #'s

75735A front passenger Door

75736A Driver's Door.

They also come painted to match your car... although I havent had a chance to install them on my car yet...

I FREAKIN LOVE THIS SITE!!!!!!!!!!!

once again, just casually reading and I run across a thread that pertains to my ride as well.

Mine looks exactly like the picture above. I've got a temporary piece of duct tape on the inside part of the trim and door holding it in proper place.

I'm calling Carsons tomorrow.

I'm sure that they can get that color in for you, because mine is a 98 GS400 and its alpine silver, so Gordon ordered it for me, and I'm in Michigan, it got here 8 days after I placed the order

Great info Noop. Although mine hasnt started falling off just yet I will probably pick some new ones up and install them later. How well is the color match?

Everyone:

Thanks for the help!!!

Thats the kind of solution I was hoping for.

I'm calling Gordon tonight and getting it for both doors.

I assume I just peel off the existing trim and stick the new one on. Is there more to the install?

the color match is great!

and for the install... I havent done mine yet but, it looks like you have to take the door panels off to get to the screws, I think there are 3 or 4 screws
