Default question about buying a 2002

Hey All

I've been researching which new car I should pick up and pretty much narrowed it down to either a GS300/400. I just happened to drive by a dealership and saw a maroon gs300 2002 w/ 42k mile for $30995 (no nav). They said they would give me a discount of $2k = 28,995 which I was like wooo considering KBB was 28K... I trying to get a rough idea what would be a great price on this of what I should try to negotiate with the dealer. I'd personnally like to try to find something a little less so i can make a few upgrades for find one thats comparable at the same cost. Any advice? I've tried posting on the forums and searching numerous web sites. I need to make a purchase within a next month or so. I think this would be a perfect family car compared to my Supra, 300zx or Typhoon which I'm planning to sell the typhoon and Z soon. BTW anyone have any car seat issues? Thanks in advance.

Thanks

Buy a 430, if you get the 300, you will wish you went the other way.

Yes the 400 or 430 would be a perfect choice. If you search and be patience you should be a able to find a 98-00 400 in the low to mid 20's.. They are out with low miles and Nav if that whats you want... Besides what a great way to have a 300HP family car that looks amazing.....

Good Luck

I've moved your post into the 2nd gen forum which is what 2002 cars are. Search works great here on our forum, lots of good info out there. Welcome to CL

Should I get a GS300 or GS430? (found by searching with "which gs300 gs430" in the GS forum)

Typical GS problems you should be aware of (most consider these minor)
Moisture in Healights
Low/rough Idle Issue
Door Actuator Problems
Dash Rattle
Sunroof Rattle
Vibration at Highway Speed

Is it worth getting a CPO vehicle? (found by searching for 'CPO worth"

thats seems pretty high for a 02 gs3. you could probably pull of a 430 for that amount these days shoot get a 400 and save some money for mods unless you don't care for more power or you have plans for going FI in the future than get a gs3 cuz they have way more options in that department than the 400's or 430's.

Yeah; seems a bit expensive; try negotiating more. I got a 2002 GS430 with all options and 20k miles for the same price half a year ago...

That price does seem high for a 300 w/ 42k and no nav.. shop around. My GS300 only had 10k miles on it when I bought it a few days ago. Good luck.

28K for a 02 GS300 with over 40K miles no nav is way too much. You could get a GS430 for that. Since your on the east coast you should be able to find some good deals. I know people who got 01 GS300s for 17.5-19K on the east coast. For an 02 without nav and over 40K miles I would say 21-23 would be a pretty good deal where you are at. The prices continue to drop on the 2nd Gen since the new body style is out especially with the GS300. If you don't want to pay the higher price and insurance for a v-8 you can still mod the inline 6 in the GS300. Most KBB prices I find to be pretty high and not reflect what people really pay for used cars, more like a high starting point to be bargained down several thousand dollars but even 28K is too high to start from let alone 30K. Good Luck
