Default Questions

Having owned my car for five days, I have a couple of questions,

Does the engine really idle at 200 RPM, and run all of 1500 at 75 MPH, or is my tach broke? or am I going nuts (The last part was a rhetorical question, of course I'm going nuts)

Does anyone have a source for shop manuals OTHER than spending $300.00? Since the nearest Lexus dealer is 140 miles away, I am going to have to do the maintenance on my own. My first contact with the local Toyota dealership was less than stellar. (They have never seen one of these cars either)

I found a guy with a key cutting machine locally. Can anyone point me to the procedure to program duplicate keys that actually works? The one I have is the master, I also have the valet key and the key code. I have an uncut blank coming.
Thanks
Bill

Boy, I really love this car

bill-no way your car should be idling at 200rpm! either your tach is messed up or something else is wrong. I don't think it would even run at 200rpm. is the idle smooth or is it shaking and sound like it's about to stall? also, 75mph is more like 2600rpm range I think.
are you still under warranty? it does tranfer to who ever owns car you know. 4yrs from in service date or 50k miles.
done know what to tell you the key issue-search

Here are the key programming instructions.

What kind of key are you getting? One with a remote head or without?

Take care,

Tami

man no way the car can idle at 200, it will stall right the way. and at 75mph it's at 1500rpm? that sounds low too, it should be around 2500rpm if i remember correctly

about shop manual, sorry but that's pretty much the price you have to pay

The car has 62 on the clock so it's out of warranty. It idles fine the tach reads low. Think reseting the computer would have any effect? Otherwise I will just probably just live with it. (I can imagaine what Lexus wants for a new one)
Thanks

that's a wierd problem. I wonder what it could be? some kinda of sensor or tach itself? sounds like a good candidate for a "goodwill repair". do you have a relationship with a Lex dealer yet?
