Default Lost master key

When I bought my car 2 years ago it came with only one key, well half. The plastic top was seperated from the metal key. Long story short after having the car off the road working on it and I somehow lost the key while moving houses. Lexus wants $600+ for a new key .. I am really hoping to get around the cost a little bit, anyone else run into a crummy situation like mine? My dad replaced the ignition lock (with key) in his chev pickup from another truck in the pick n pull, thinking this might be my best bet? I have a 93 sc so I think it would work but does anyone know for sure? Possibly locksmith could help me out? I know the best solution would be to keep track of my key so don't mention it

Thanks for any input
-Chris

Cheaper way is go to lexus and get key code, look for a locksmith who can cut keys for lexus and give them that

It's almost a better option to part out your car vs going to the dealer for another key.

Why are they charging $600. I have a similar situation, the sc i just bought doesn't have the master key and lexus is only charging $35 to cut a new one. Do have a remote?

It's because I have no keys at all for them to copy from. They said that would have to change the chip to match the new remote so then you're paying lexus labour prices as well... and no they won't let me install it myself

Finally got the old ignition housing out... what a PITA. My new one and key comes in tomorrow first thing I'm doing is getting like 3 spares cut... Never making this mistake again. If anyone cares/needs to see how I swapped it I can post a DIY I did take pictures throughout the process

YA YA laugh it up buddy haha no I had a good laugh too For 92-96 you can get spares cut from your master key. 97+ had some sort of transponder chip if I remember correctly you will most definitely need to get it cut at the dealer. The price difference wasn't much.. local guy wants $85 plus tax for a black key and Lexus wanted $110 for a Lexus key.. it sounds dumb but for the extra few bucks I'd rather have a nice "L" on my key I've heard of guys in the states getting spares made for like $25!!
