Default Broken spring?

OK, this is weird. The piece of metal on the right I found on my driveway about 10-12 yrs ago. I assumed it fell off a passing truck and landed on my driveway. The piece on the left I found a week ago. Now there is an occasional 'clunk' from the rear on certain kinds of bumps. First, has anyone else had a rear spring break on their car? Second, it appears the OEM spring is discontinued, can anyone comment on replacing all four springs with Tein replacements? Thanks for your input/advice.

I don't have much to say about Tein springs or any aftermarket except I generally don't like the ride and handling. As for coils breaking it's fairly common I've owned two cars where this occurred. Water and dirt sit at the bottom of the coil (trapped) and rot out the coil until it snaps.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know it was not uncommon. I sold GM parts for 17-years and I swear I never had a customer with a broken spring.

TEIN's are not bad. I've had two sets; TEIN CS and a custom valved set of TEIN FLEX with SWIFT springs. (should be in my build thread somewhere). I've recently switched to AIRLIFT.
the CS were too soft for me, and the custom FLEX were good but I got tired of the harsh ride. Keep in mind though I did modify them to be harsh..lol. They have way more options now since I've had them.

I worked in the car business for 25 years and I have never seen a spring break like that. Usually aftermarket springs are painted a bright color, Tein uses a medium green color. So I really doubt those are aftermarket. The strut assemblies are not difficult to remove, jack up the car so u can inspect each corner and figure out what springs broke. I still have my original strut assemblies, I will make u a good deal if you find yours are damaged.

Are you saying because you haven't seen one break it doesn't happen?

I don’t know what is going on? That’s why I am suggesting a good inspection of each strut to find out which ones broke, and maybe any clues to the cause? There must be something that has caused this, and u want to make sure the other 2 springs aren’t damaged or about to break. It’s possible the previous owner did something to alter the springs? Either heated them or tried to cut them? Or maybe they lived in city with a lot of major pot holes? To have 1 spring break is really uncommon, for 2 to break? There must be something causing it, and it needs to be resolved to prevent it from happening again

Common issue in the salt belt, brine accumulates at the bottom of the coil causing rust until it fractures. I've seen this many times. The image posted shows exactly how all of them look.

I live in Salt Lake City, and just have never seen it, but I have that cars in Rust Belt can really suffer from rust when the y get older
