Need advise to troubleshoot electric trunk opener on 02 GS430
Valet mode is off. The trunk latch works just not the fob or the button inside.
Should I be able to test the latch with a 12v power supply? I’ve tried to measure voltage when the fob is pressed, but I don’t get a reading. Maybe I’m doing it wrong.
Also, I have nav, should I have messages like “trunk open” on the nav? I’m wondering if my nav is bunk. I found the nav computer unbolted in the trunk with no DVD. It’s plugged it, but don’t do anything with no DVD.
In my 03 GS430 with nav, there is no message for the trunk. I don't think it's connected at all. I'm not sure if the dash open door light goes off, I would say no.
Does the car "chirp" when you hit the unlock button? "The Car Care Nut" just did an episode on a 600k mile LS430 he is restoring where he had to change a door solenoid. He pointed out that a bad solenoid will cause the car NOT to chirp when you hit the buttons on the fob even if the doors all unlock. I'm investigating the exact same issue.
Looking for more info. I'm assuming that the trunk releases from the inside latch correct? Mine does.

For me, the trunk opens from both inside and using the remote. I think there is no chirp when locking/unlocking - just the turn signals go off. And the locking/unlocking works without issues so far, except few instances where the range where it worked was really short.
Thanks for jumping in to help. The Key FOB does work for the doors. So it must be communicating.
I don't get a "Chirp" when I press the "Trunk" key fob button. Do I hold down the button?
Using the physical Key is the only way I can open my trunk. It's probable the "emergency release" inside the trunk works, but I'm not going to test it.
I have all the interior panel off, and I'm thinking about applying 12v to the latch and listening for sound. I'd rather measure voltage when the button is pressed, but that hasn't worked for me. Am I doing something wrong?
The other possible problem is related to the "Valet" switch. Maybe it needs cleaned...

I'm just throwing this out there. You state that you have a "range" issue too. I'm wondering since I am always at the back of the car when I try to open the trunk if my keys range is just so bad that it can't detect the trunk open signal. I wonder if I try to open the trunk by using the key by the door if it will open? I hadn't actually though of that possibility until you said that. Thanks.

Yes, you may need to hold the button to pop the trunk. It can be configured to open on one press, two presses, or a 0.8 second press, or not at all. 0.8 seconds is the default setting.
Whether the car beeps or not is a matter of "C-best" settings, which can be configured by the dealer. I can confirm from experience that the car will beep on lock/unlock (if configured to do so) regardless of whether there is a malfunctioning door lock actuator.

Well. This will come as no surprise to people who have been around the 2nd gen SC430 Forum for any length of time. But Bgw70 is right on AGAIN! I had an epiphany earlier today and thought that maybe my trunk unlock button wouldn't unlock using my fob for the simple reason that it was too far away from the receiver. So, I went out to the car, stood by the door and pushed the trunk release on the fob and low and behold the trunk latch popped and the lid was open. Thank you Bgw70 for keeping me focused enough to realize that the trunk was indeed programmed. Now my issue is why is the fob range so limited? Cheap key? Or bad transponder key coil maybe? Anyway. Respect Sir! Thanks.
