thanks for the response how long would you say it is safe to drive like this and what size HG to I get ? I want something thicker than stock but not that big thats it drops my compression so low. I am going to go with a 61mm or 67mm turbo btw
I have driven it a 2mm HG for over 6 months without boost the car felt much slower. Probably a 1.5 or 2mm would be good, remember the thicker the headgasket the more sluggish your car will get when you drive without boost.
ok i got one i am peiceing together my turbo kit but not ready to install it yet BUT i need to do some maintenance first on my GE. So my question is since I am going to change Timeing belt and water pump and front seals can I also install a thicker HG and run the stock engine without any problems for a while. Basically want to install the ARP studs and thicker HG and still be stock is thats ok or would I have to put on the HG and Studs when I do the turbo install
If I'm not mistaken you could run the ticker HG now.But the car is going to feel extremely slow .

Dude i dont know how much you looking to spend.but from what i have learned.if you gonna open your motor.why dont you throw GTE pistons and rods?then you can use a stock GTE headgasket.just my .o2cents.

i am pulling the head for studs and new HG block is fine no need to pull engine and i can run GTE headgasket now if i want.

I would highly recommend that you do a compression test before you start spending money on the necessary parts so you'll have a base line to work from and if you have bad or low compression in any cylinders you can address the issue while the head is off!!!
This is how I look at it.you planning to pull the head.you gonna have to one day pull the oil plan to tap the oil return from the turbo.that's why I said to swap out the pistons and rings and rods.then you know for sure you block is bling-bling.
