Tesla never claimed to be #1 on the Ring. I don't get how you come up with all the stuff you mention on Tesla threads....

Haha...i fear if they get the costs down quickly on the tri-motor design and decide to stick that in the Model 3 lineup, people will be killing themselves left and right.

Does Tesla currently have the quickest cars on average of any automaker? I think so, except some niche supercar brands.

Ferrari, Bugatti, Lambo, McLaren, Porsche (maybe). They definitely up there though. They sell the fastest cheap cars though for sure

Yes, I, too, like a car that tracks like a freight train the faster you go.

has anyone here said they've 'failed' because they don't have the fastest car on the ring? i don't think so. but when it was announced they had the fastest production EV on the ring, it was somehow promoted in combination with them having the 'fastest production car on earth' as making it seem like they had the fastest car on the ring. just the usual hype.

tesla has absolutely not 'failed', i think you're exaggerating what you perceive some has written/said.

Another review... interesting...

tl;dr...

lots of fun, very fast, TERRIBLY, dangerously inadequate brakes, terrible inadequate power steering, good on street but not on a track.

It's not good on the track because there is no "track mode" yet. That's a future OTA update.

Elon Musk teases Plaid track mode, waypoints, and “other things” in software update coming soon

Even the crappy brakes can be updated OTA with more regen.

The brakes are the worst part of the car. Badly underbraked for such a powerful beast...but its waaaay cheaper and waaaay easier to put a really nice big brake kit than to generate 1000hp reliable horsepower from a car. The Pikes Peak race car was basically just a stripped Plaid model with bigger brakes and race suspension. Track mode will definitely help with handling but the brakes definitely need the upgrade for track duty.

However, I wouldn't really ever track the Plaid...too heavy and more of a grand tourer. Doesn't sound much fun tracking the thing.

It would be great if tesla offered, at least as an option, a bigger brake upgrade (carbon ceramic maybe).

I don't think weight is much of an issue for whether or not an EV is trackable. The Rimac Nevera for instance is just 26 pounds lighter than a Model S Plaid.

The fact that the Model S can do it at all while carrying a family of 5 is what makes it absurd (in a good way).

There's limits to how much braking you can get from regen. Regen brakes are good in relatively modest regular driving (to achieve one pedal driving), but for serious braking, there's no way - they must work in combination with caliper/piston/disc brakes..
