They have done great no doubt. But they are not #1 on that track…there are like 60 cars with faster lap time. Long way to go. The trouble with a Tesla chatting is that it always turns into a giant controversy. Tesla plaid is like 1000 hp, cars with lesser power are still ahead.

Tesla never claimed to be #1 on the Ring. I don't get how you come up with all the stuff you mention on Tesla threads....
I'd love to own a Plaid but fear I may kill myself if I had one. I've done some pretty naughty things in my M3P and its pretty slow comparatively.
haha, you know your life insurance has all these questions regarding if you're involved in high risk activities, like sky diving, bungie jumping....they now have to add do you own a tesla plaid?

Haha...i fear if they get the costs down quickly on the tri-motor design and decide to stick that in the Model 3 lineup, people will be killing themselves left and right.
I think Tesla has done great, I was just commenting how absurd people who tout a few cars that have better times as proof that Tesla has failed are.
has anyone here said they've 'failed' because they don't have the fastest car on the ring? i don't think so. but when it was announced they had the fastest production EV on the ring, it was somehow promoted in combination with them having the 'fastest production car on earth' as making it seem like they had the fastest car on the ring. just the usual hype.
tesla has absolutely not 'failed', i think you're exaggerating what you perceive some has written/said.

The brakes are the worst part of the car. Badly underbraked for such a powerful beast...but its waaaay cheaper and waaaay easier to put a really nice big brake kit than to generate 1000hp reliable horsepower from a car. The Pikes Peak race car was basically just a stripped Plaid model with bigger brakes and race suspension. Track mode will definitely help with handling but the brakes definitely need the upgrade for track duty.
However, I wouldn't really ever track the Plaid...too heavy and more of a grand tourer. Doesn't sound much fun tracking the thing.

I don't think weight is much of an issue for whether or not an EV is trackable. The Rimac Nevera for instance is just 26 pounds lighter than a Model S Plaid.
The fact that the Model S can do it at all while carrying a family of 5 is what makes it absurd (in a good way).
Even the crappy brakes can be updated OTA with more regen.
There's limits to how much braking you can get from regen. Regen brakes are good in relatively modest regular driving (to achieve one pedal driving), but for serious braking, there's no way - they must work in combination with caliper/piston/disc brakes..
