Default Model Y performance now available to order

Snuck in for cash orders prior to 10/1, presumably deposit payment secures credit for post 9/30 delivery.

No lease numbers showing yet.

$57,490 MSRP

3.3 seconds 0-60

All paint colors showing as standard

All interior color options showing as standard

Tow hitch standard

Unclear yet if this is a "Launch Edition" or if all the options will be included going forward.

My guess is maximizing orders taken in Q3 and treating them as a sale based on a non refundable deposit and the "binding commitment" necessary to secure the tax credit for post 9/30 deliveries. You can currently only "order" this if you are ordering as a cash customer, it doesn't show up if you indicate you are looking to lease or finance.

I know they want to get orders in before the credit expires, but why not release it a couple of days ago and get even more orders? Why wait until the last few hours?

yes, agree it’s definitely odd. My most plausible theory is that they are expecting to fall just short enough of expectations that are a few extra M3P orders will tip them over the edge, but who knows. That may also explain why it’s all a bit half baked and why you can’t get numbers for anything other than a cash purchase. Maybe it was intended to roll out at sometime in the future and they brought it forward quickly to snag a few extra deals before quarter end.

I did not, but I was waiting for this to drop as this is the one I am interested in. I don't qualify for the tax credit, so the buy it on 9/30 opportunity that dropped yesterday would not have worked for me. My sense is that there will be equivalent incentives on these as we get deeper into Q4, and at that point I might well grab one.

Yep. I'm glad the credit went away. People that would have gotten the credit before will likely pay a little more, but people that didn't qualify might pay less. Let the market balance it for everyone.
