Anyone have experience installing an additional cig lighter on a '94 ES300?

Where do you want to put it, and is going to be used as a cigarette lighter or just a power tap?

 

I would like to put it as close to the front dash as possible.

I will be using to for an aditional power source. (GPS / Cell Phone)

Once you find a suitable place to mount the lighter, drill a hole, and then use your original lighter wires by splicing into them and jumping them over to this new lighter. You should have sufficient electrical capacity because the current draw is very little for these devices you mentioned, and you still have the convenience of two lighters.

Say I wanted to put it where the ash tray was. (tossed it b/c it smelled of smoke )
How would I get behind that area? Are there directions for my model year to remove it?

Sorry, even though I once owned a '94ES, I never had the occasion to remove that part. The only way is to get the shop manual for that model, or maybe some of the members can tell you how.

 

there's a step-by-step procedure in the sticky i've mentioned with pictures and all for the 97-01ES.. works the same as 92-96ES.

pull out bottom trim under the radio unit to reveal 2 upper bolts
carefully popping out wood trim plate for the shifter by prying at bottom edge will reveal 2 bottom bolts
removing all 4 bolts will release ash tray/cupholder unit
unplug the wire connector at back

I installed an aux cig lighter in my 96. I used the same power lead that my radio runs on and if you look in your center console there is a felt lining that come out and will reveal 2x1/2" bolts. Remove those and that whole area will pull out and you can run wires. I like it because it hides any cell phone or mp3 player while still charging it.

 

Hooking it up this way is not as good as what I said in an above post.
Reason: The original cigarette lighter circuit is built to handle a higher current, so there is less chance of blowing fuses.

 

well ive run an mp3 player and a cell phone on it for 7 months now. No bad fuses. In theory yeah i guess its possible. but works great.

 

All I said was you're better off tapping a circuit that has a higher current rating then a lower one. Secondly, since he wants to mount the 2nd. lighter socket very close, then these wires are readily accessible
I didn't say it won't work.

 

Could you please post some photos of your mod? I am trying to figure out where I am going to install it.
