I own ES350 2024. I live in northeast. Right now we have temperatures slightly above or below freezing. I noticed that every time I run climate control in auto mode it automatically turns A/C on. My question is- why does it do it? I do not ask to cool inside but rather hear it to 66F. I am turning A/C off manually every time. No fogging of windows was observed when A/C is off. Should I let auto run A/C or keep it off?
The A/C comes on to help remove humidity. If you try to de-fog your windows without A/C, it takes significantly longer. If you're going to leave it in Auto, then trust the process.

Its a good practice to have the AC on in winter to defrost by pulling moisture out of air inside car. (possibly melted snow) Also its good for the compressor seals being lubricated which makes a compressor last longer.
Just wish there were an easy dashboard button to push to go “Eco” rather than “A/C.” Don’t like having to dive into climate protocol to simply turn A/C on and off. Am I missing something?

You might want to explore what the voice command system has for commands to control "climate" related functions. The 2021 Lexus ES300H, ES350 Navigation and Multimedia System Owner's Manual on page 175 shows a "Climate" example command of:
“Turn the AC on/Turn the AC off”
A voice command of “Show command examples for <menu>” where terms such as "Climate", "Eco" etc. are substituted for <menu> may reveal a voice command to do what you want to accomplish.
How cam you tell the AC is on, are you looking in the Navigation/menu screen?
I have the same concern, no reason to run AC compressor when you don't need it, why wear the system out?
My '99 Avalon AC ran fine for 25 years with only one single recharge and I hardly ever ran it over the winter. I think it lasted so long because I only used it when needed based on my needs not a computer algorithm.
I have tried the voice command to "TURN AC OFF" and it does respond that its turned off but I think it's turning the entire system off, not just the compressor.

Go into the climate menu and you'll see a radio button for AC
