Default ALL DASH LIGHTS ON (no codes)

HI - my Lexus ES 330 2005 has all the dash lights on (every one available on the left panel). The car shoots no trouble codes and recently passed emissions. I have 270,XXX on the clock. Does anyone have any idea why the all turned on? I tried clearing the light by using the 'clear codes' on my scanner and also disconnecting the battery but they still return. No issue with car performance.

Hello,

You wrote that you reset codes, what codes popped up?
All the lights like CEL, oil light, etc? A picture would be helpful.

It sounds like an issue with the Body ECU, the one responsible for a lot of systems in the car, some dash lights included, though if stuff like Oil Pressure and Brake lights are on, which are hard-wired to their sensors and are not triggered by the ECU, it is definitely an issue with the instrument cluster. A picture of the cluster will help determine if it is every single light, or maybe some other hard-wired lights are off.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Check your battery voltage, if the battery is very low on charge it can trip a lot of sensors and cause whacky situations that cannot be explained. Is the car slow to start? Does the battery sound weak?

Hi attached is a picture. Sorry for the confusion - there are NO codes present. I just thought to try the 'clear all codes' function on my scanner. ABS, VSC, BRAKE, SEAT BELT, TRAC OFF, & AIR BAG are lit.

Hi, car starts runs fine. Battery and alternator are newer.

Is the Seat belt Light on because it is not fastened or because it is also flawed?
Did all those lights appear out of blue one day or you got the car with them?

Turns out all the lights for the exception of VSC and TRAC OFF are controlled by the Instrument Cluster ECU and have little to no relation to the Body ECU as I suspected earlier. With that, I still can't definitively say that it is the cluster at fault, since from the schematic, both VSC and TRAC OFF lights are hard-wired to the Skid Control ECU. If you can, I would suggest to find a local mechanic with the make-specific scan tool, the one that can go beyond standard OBD2 protocol, or get yourself a Techstream software to make sure, once and for all, that there are no codes stored in any of the ECUs.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

The seat belt light goes off if seat belt is plugged in. Thank you for the other tips.

Coming to think of it, it's winter time - Traction Control prevents the wheels from slipping, ABS from locking, see if that happens in your car, just make sure not to test the Airbag light as well while you are at it..

Hope this helps and best of luck!

If battery voltage is above 12.6V, maybe a wheel speed sensor is out?

VSC, TRAC OFF, and ABS would all be related to that.

Agree with Arsenii, you need Techstream or a higher level scan tool as mentioned previously. Some older Toyotas can be scanned for ABS codes by jumping two terminals with a paper clip, may be worth researching if that’s possible.

Get the battery tested to rule that out. And make sure the terminals are clean and tight on the posts. “Newer” means nothing if there has been no test/measurement.

UPDATE: I Had to change my rear left wheel hub and the ABS sensor was really dirty and looked damaged. Changed the ABS sensor and all lights went off.
