My front driver door speaker is started to crackle with lower frequencies. It was tolerable at first, but now is becoming unbearable. What is the best speaker to replace this with? Can I just remove the old speaker, and solder in a new one? I don't have access to a junkyard. Ideally I could pick up a third party speaker with the exact same dimensions and specs. My 2005 ES330 has original speakers/radio/6 cd changer in dash.
If the outer ring is bad, you can get a rebuild kit for it. Otherwise you need to replace both left and right door speakers so they match. Crutchfield online has several speakers starting at $40 that will fit and (may require an adapter) as well as needing wire adapters from the site as well. They will sound much better than stock. You'll smile.
Like I said already. Crutchfield has lots of info to answer your questions even if you don't buy from them. Changing speakers out isn't simply dropping new ones in.
You can probably find an identical used woofer on eBay for around $20, though you may wonder how long the rest of your 15 year old speakers are going to last... Personally, I would take this as an excuse to upgrade my car's sound :-)
BTW, your "front speakers" consist of separate woofers and tweeters that work as a matched set. So, unless you replace the damaged woofer with an identical used one, you'll need to replace the tweeter as well. Then you'll want the right front speaker to match the left... then you'll want the front and rear speakers to be of comparable quality... You're stepping onto a slippery slope (although the sound quality is truly better at the top of it).
I concur with the Crutchfield recommendation, although I recently replaced the OEM front pioneers in my older ES300 with a set of inexpensive
from Amazon. They've apparently been discontinued by JBL, but the reviews on Crutchfield's site (where they're no longer available) were in the 5-star range, so I paid $36 and got them from Amazon.

Reason: fix link mangled by editor - weird... removed offending link. editor sucks.
Lot's of similar posts in an effort to help out the Original poster. It's been quite some time since he posted...
Yeah - After I posted I realized the thread was a month old instead of a few days as I had thought (it was among the most recent threads in this ES sub-forum).
Myself, when I ask for advice on such a forum, I generally report back and thank those who helped :-).
