I am interested in replacing the speakers on my 2000 RX300. I do not have the Nakamichi system.

What speakers would you recommend and what are the specifications I need to look for?

There's a funky mounting bracket that's part of the OEM speaker. You'll need to get these from somewhere like Crutchfield. I've found Infinity speakers are pretty good OEM replacements

 

Any speaker is only as good as power supplied to it. I replaced many speakers and finally learned to replace the source of signal, supplied to speaker. Unless speaker is torn and has to be replaced. Otherwise, it's more of wishful thinking than real improvement.
As of fancy brackets required, I simply drill holes in door panel to match new speaker and bolt it on. Maybe run some adhesive insulation strip, few bucks from any home improvement store, to avoid rattles.
