Default 2013 es300h trunk question

Hi everyone, i just got a 2013 es300h and love it so far.

Quick question, i dont have the automatic trunk opener/closer so when you open the trunk how far does it open?

When I use the key throb the trunk only opens about an inch then i have to manually open. Is this normal or do I need to get the hydraulics looked at?

Thanks

I think they made it that way intentionally. They sell a power trunk opener (&closer) as an option. If the non-power trunk opened fully when it is just unlocked, fewer people would buy the power trunk opener.

Congrats on getting the hybrid. Yes, the trunk on cheapo-spec models pops up slightly when you press the trunk release button. You have to do the rest of the lifting yourself. I don't find it a hassle because the panel is pretty light, it's not like lifting the heavy rear lid on an RX or LX.

It's not only the "cheapo-spec" models. It's all models without the power trunk opener... You'll find that the Lexus engineers balanced it so that it opens and closes very easily.

FYI - there is a personalized setting that allows for a one click trunk open action instead of holding down the button.

It is Personalized Setting #35 (for a 2013 ES), which is one of the settings that can only be changed by the dealer. The vehicle owner can, however, change the "dealer only" settings with either Toyota Techstream software or the Carista smart phone app.

OP - pull the trunk liner down on both sides and you will see the ends
of the trunk counterweight torsion bars. There are multiple slots, move
the spring to another spot and see how high the lid jumps when released.
Easy to do and reversible if needed. The Hybrid style spoiler is available
as an accessory and this adjustment allows the different weights to open
properly.
