Default Power Trunk Option

Quick question for those who have gotten the power trunk option on their 14 GS's. What does this really do differently than a mechanical lever can't? Is it just s simple solenoid opening the lock or does it do something different such as fully open and close the trunk lid from inside?

It fully opens and closes the trunk lid.

Right, it's motorized opening and closing. You can open it from the driver's seat, with the key, or with the button to the right of the rear license plate. You can only close it by pressing the button on the lower edge of the trunk lid, not with the key or from inside the car.

Wish my gsf had this , when the trunk opens it barely pops. Then I get my finger prints all over the trunk

One of those options you think you'll never use until you have it. Comes in very handy at times.

It would be a pretty cool feature to have, like the rear shade. I didn't think I would be using it much but I use it on a daily basis. I noticed the 4GS trunk takes a lot more effort to close compared to my 2IS trunk.

If you think it's too hard to close there's also a TSB for that which has them replacing the springs with softer ones. I think they over-rated the springs on the F Sport to make up for the weight of the spoiler, but the spoiler isn't very heavy.

To the guy earlier complaining about fingerprints, open it from the rubber button area above your plate. I don't know where else you'd grab it to open it. Maybe you're talking about closing it, and there I agree.

I'm not sure, but is there no internal handle on the trunk lid to pull down on to assist with closing?

There is, and using this makes it much easier and fingerprint-free

LOL. What do they say, "If the ashtray's full it's time to trade the car."? Sounds like it's time to go for the '14.

Since I have an Obsidian car, I'm really strict about fingerprints and dirt, so I use the knife edge of my hand to close the trunk once it's nearly closed. But I use the inside handle to get it down low enough first.

I wonder if everyone knows about the grocery hooks in the trunk also.

I close the trunk using my fingers on the license plate and the top of the lower part of the license plate frame.

Any idea if the dealer can add this to 2014 without it?

You cannot add the optional power trunk opener after auto is built at factory. I tried on my 2013 with a kit that just came out from Lexus. B ut now we know that kit is only for autos that had the power trunk in the first place that need to be replaced due to an accident or malfunction.
