Exclamation Does this sound right?!?!?!

Well the awww crap part is that i know that i am going to be spending some money now. But the reason why is that my car is not sounding right anymore. Here is the problem.

A couple of days ago I noticed that when i start my car that it was louder then usual and that as soon as i got into my car that it smelled like burning gas, not oil, but gas.. Then when i drive my car it sounds like the intake is off or something, but it is also coming from underneath where the intake is. When i drive you can hear it accelarate louder and in an annoying way. Anyone know what this could be???? My freind said maybe a celanoid or some crap like that but not sure at all.

Just want to know if anyone can help before i go somewhere to get it checked up on. Thanks for the help!!

Sorry about your car. I know that sux. I really don't have any answers for you Burning gas? Intake noise? Hmmm. I'm not a mechanic and you should probably take it to one. But I have some guesses. Fuel filter, catalytic converter, air filter? Who knows. Your guess is as good as mine. Sorry I couldn't be of any further help.

you may have worn engine mounts that could have caused the exhaust y pipe to break at the flex points

listen for it under the car by the front to see if the noise is there
someone in the car with foot on the brake of course
i had the problem also

don't buy an aftermarket part because it is cheaper the oem toyota one is the best

check for a diff part# for the camry v6 might be cheaper not sure though

it is also very easy to change

Thumbs up

Thanks guys. I listened to it a little bit under the car and i think that it is either the catalytic converter or the part that skperformance said. It is coming from that region of the engine and I think that it is the converter though. Thanks for your help all and I will take it in as soon as i get a chance. Anymore ideas will also help but i think that i know what it is now

Sounds like you have a loose vaccum hose somewhere.

If it is the exhuast (break, separation, a crack in the joint, some place for noise and gas odor to escape) then you should be able to see exhaust eminating from somewhere other than the tailpipe upon cold start up in the morning. You are in the windy city, I don't watch the weather channel daily, but my guess is you still get some 30° days? On the next cold morning, don't listen, watch for the noise and vapor.

Thanks for all the replies. i will have to check on that early morning start thing. I think though like i said that it is the catalytic converter still, but i might be wrong. I am taking the car to a friend soon and will be able to get a better idea on what it is. i will keep you all posted.. Thanx again

so Adam, I guess until it is fixed, you will be really living up to your screen name.

Try a vocational high school that has automotive tech or welding. They may do it for free and may even get an educational discount on the parts.

the part may have only 6 bolts if i remember right and one hanger
it should be rather simple to change
price the part from lexus first to know where you stand with the other shops
its price is a bit more than some others because of the design
that has 2 flex joints
