I think I notice vibration right around 1900-2400 RPM in gears other than 4th. I had been thinking it was my torque converter but now I'm not so sure. When in neutral it's fine. While stopped in D or R there is pretty bad vibration, almost as if a cylinder wasn't firing. It goes away if I let my foot off the brakes and let the car creep forward. If it were a misfire the check engine light would come on right?
While I was gazing at my engine I noticed something called the, "engine mounting insulator," that looks like a miniature shock absorber was loose. So I tightened that. My dogbone/engine moving control rod/torque strut mount/whatever it's called is bad. Could that mount be the source of some vibration? I haven't looked closely at the other three (or is it four) mounts, and am not sure what to look for on the hydraulic mount. Which mounts wear the most frequently and would be apt to cause vibration right at 2000RPM?
Your car is OBDI, so no, a missfire would not set the check engine light. As far as the vibration, it may be a good idea to take it down to a independant garage and have them take a look at it. They will give you a estimate on what needs to be done. You can then decide what things you feel comfortable repairing yourself, and which they should probably handle. Looking at your previous posts, it sounds like there are several things that need attention and getting a experienced mechanic who can drive the car for 15 min would tell you more than all of us could with dozens of posts.
all of your motor mounts could be bad, not to mention that the engine might not be running well [for variety of possible reasons] AT THE SAME TIME
one test is the brake torque method to see how much the engine moves around -- this test requires variety of safety procedures to avoid launching into things and people which must be done
