need help thank you.......
I plan on doing an oil change myself and I plan on switching to sythetic for the first time. The car is 2002 Lexus ES with 29K miles. Is it safe to switch on sythetic with that age and miles???? Also I live in Chicago and plan on going with MOBIL EP full sythetic 5W-30. Is 5W-30 good for this type of car????? I will go with OEM oil filter please respond thank you.

I used K&N Gold filters on my 02 ES just cause the molded nut in the case made it so easy to get on and off. K&N filters and the Mobil 1 filters are made by the same company (Champion), difference is the Mobil 1 uses a synthetic material in the filter mesh.
The oil filter on the 2002 ES is positioned at a down angle, so when you remove it, oil always drains out and gets over everything below.
Here is a hint for the 2002 oil change to eliminate some spillage:
Take a 20oz. soda bottle and cup off the top 1/4 to 1/3 of the bottle. Place the remaining bottom part of the bottle up under the oil drip guide that is right under the oil filter. When you loosen the filter let it drain completely before removing it completely. The drip guide will channel the oil to a stream that should flow right into the catch basin you have below. However, the stream of oil always hits the cross member and steering linkages below and then gets everywhere. By using the bottle bottom under the drip guide, the oil flows out of the filter into the drip channel and then right into the bottle. No mess, no clean up. Then you can just lift the bottle bottom up out from under there and dispose of it properly. The amount of oil left in the filter will not overflow the bottle.
