Ventilation problem, 2007 ES350
I have a 2007 ES350, and have found that the rear vents blow HOT air even when the A/C is set low and the front vents are blowing cold air. Does anyone know how the ventilation system is controlled (i.e., where the thermostats are, how the ducts are run from the A/C condensor and heat exchanger)? I suspect that the thermostat that controls the air for the rear vents is OOC, but when I asked the dealer about the problem at the 5k service, I was told that there is no separate thermostat for the rear vents.

Sounds like you have an early build that has a defective servo motor in the HVAC system. There's a TSB out for this very issue. Take it to the dealer; the service dept should know exactly what the problem is and be able to fix it.

i have the same problem... i never addressed it because i never have people in the rear seats... but one time i did and they told me to turn off the heater when i had AC on full blast....i thought it was because the ducts ran close to the exhaust where it gain heat and blew it out to the rear seats... hm... time to make another trip to the dealers...

Oh, can you tell me the levels of different Toyota/Lexus techs? I've always been curious. Like where a Master tech is in relation to... uh, whatever else there is.

You can access that na.tis.toyota.com site right? It's in there if you're ever bored and want to just skim through the list of TSBs. You don't even have to open it up. The summary lets you know the problem.

Master must have at least 36 months experience and 8 ASE certifications
Senior must have 18 months experience and 4 ASE certifications
Originally master had to have 60 months and senior 36 months.
There are training courses that both must have also but just attendance gives a passing credit.
