My battery light keeps coming on, flickering, sometimes staying on for a while and then going off. The car is running fine but I want to know what may be causing this and to take care of it asap. I checked the battery connectors and they were okay.
Should I go to the dealer? If so, how is McGrath on Ogden?
The "battery light" is more like a "charging system" light. It doesn't always mean that your battery is dead or that your alternator is bad......it means there is a problem in the charging system. Start by doing a visual check of the battery and alternator. Check for loose connections or broken cables. If it looks as if isn't something you can't fix by tightening a loose cable then run down to your local Sears for a battery/alternator check, runs around $15. Not sure if it's free at AutoZone but check it out. Good luck, hopefully it's not a big deal.
I asked the guy why would the alt go out like that and he said it happens, which isn't good enough for me. I will have them put another one in but I am still trying to find out why these things go out like they do. Someone here mentioned an issue with a pump leaking into the alt. as a common problem.
I'm still looking for those mechanics in here that can check it out after i get it out of the shop.
