Default Battery Light

Battery light came on today on daughters way to school. I told her to bring the car home. I went and got a new battery and it's fine now. My question is...if the alternator wasn't charging would the battery light be on even now with a new battery? It's not. We've only had the car a week and if the guy sold me the car knowing the alternator was bad and charged the battery before i bought it I can't imagine the car would have run for a week with no alternator working? How hard is the alternator change on this car?

did you get the old battery tested before you bought a new battery? the alternator on mine went out due to the power steering fluid getting all over it, does your power steering leak? as far as installing a new one its pretty straight forward, nothing to difficult. if you can change your oil and brakes you can easily change it.

Yup, I wasted $80 on new battery. Alternator is bad. I don't think the power steering leaks. I will know for sure soon.
