Another comparison from C&D. No surprise about the final results even if I find some of the criteria and metrics of their evaluation to be questionable getting there, and the article itself to be very short.
And not surprised the LS500 is #3…it’s also 5 model years old. The infotainment screen in the LS is just awful
It's also the slowest of the three despite have more HP than the Genesis and more torque than the Merc.
I'm really surprised the LS didn't get any recognition for driving dynamics or handling when that was one of the positive points of the current gen. Then again the Merc was the only one that had summer performance tires while the other two were on all-seasons.
Just a couple things I note, how and since when is Mercedes producing the lightest cars in this class? And its not by a little bit, 300+ pounds is pretty significant.
Also, i dont know if Lexus changed the interior on the LS, but it looks different from what I remember. Zero continuity with that design. Either they changed something, or this class has moved on so fast in one generation that the LS interior looks about a decade old (or its both). Wow.
Personally see nothing in the LS that would make me want to purchase it over any of its competitors.
Car and Driver seems to have really clipped their budget on comparison tests. What a shame. They used to have some of the best, most thorough comparison tests in the game.
I mean it's kinda a done deal comparing a flagship tier car with two lesser ones as far as the outcome. Would have been more interesting if the 7 and A8 were involved as well since the 7 IMO. has the best 6 cyl driveline with the B58

Yea, youtube reviews are killing these magazines. lol. Among many other things.
But can you even get to know a car in 500 miles to write an extensive comparison review? In these cars, and their range, they didnt even get the chance to fill up. This test is all stats and first impressions.

Higher aluminum usage throughout the body, also the version they tested didn't have the executive rear seats. The G90's aluminum is mostly relegated to the underbody, while the LS is almost entirely steel. If the Lexus had a mild hybrid system hooked onto it like the other two it would probably add a couple hundred extra pounds onto its already porky body.

I felt like this was even shorter than their recent G80 vs. EQE article.

The LS500 is just sad.
I doubt the A8 with its okay-ish V6 would fare better than the supercharged G90, and the new 7 Series isn't out yet.

Oh it would easily beat it and the current 7 is more than enough
I think the LS looks the best out of the bunch, then the S-Class. I personally dislike the G90 design as with most of the Genesis lineup. Too bad the LS doesn't have an interior like the LC500.
They have got to stop leaving the rollout out of this. It makes it so much more annoying to compare, just give us the full 0-60 time so it's easier to judge the snap response. I get that it makes the cars seem faster but it gives a false sense of performance when they all are .3 seconds slower than listed.

Isn't that what the 5-60 is for? And the biggest issue I have with comparing "performance" in this review was giving the Merc performance summer rubber. That alone is enough to shave .3 seconds from 0-60.

The new 7-series is just now undergoing it's first drives with the press. They won't be available for comparison tests for a while longer. Bringing in the last-gen 7-series would be pointless. As for the A8, well...who cares?

Agreed, that's what 5-60mph is for. They don't get to specify what rubber their tests cars with though - cars arriving on summer or all season tires when they don't want them to happens all the time. Whatever the fleet manager can deliver is what they get.
