I agree that matte looks bad *** but how will it look 20 years from now??
I think the murdered out black (like an all black Escalade Sport) will age well, not sure about matte. What do y'all think?
I wouldn't buy a matte colored car to keep for 20 years, nor would I keep any car for that long so it doesn't matter to me. Thats the great thing about a wrap though. you just remove it.
I absolutely have been, but I'm not wrong about this. You can even check with Formula 1 about it, it is not intended to be used as any kind of a final step protection product.
The clearcoat is the same clearcoat, its just matte and not glossy. No less resistant to damage, its just that when damage occurs you can't fix it, you can't polish out scratches and the mechanical burnishing by the equipment can cause glossy spots in the matte paint.
Thats one of the many reasons why if you want a matte paint you're way better off to have it wrapped in matte PPF.
This is an S580 that was done in matte PPF over glossy selenite grey and it looks amazing, and you can replace individual pieces of film and the film is self healing, etc.
That looks great! What do you suppose it cost at a quality shop?
If you really think about it, its not. The material is very expensive and the expertise to get it installed right custom cut with no seams is pretty extensive. A full wrap job like that is like a 3 solid day job.
Yeah it looks good -minus the matte finish
The whole point of it is the matte finish lol
Thats like saying "your grass looks great but its too green"
not at all. that's a HUGE amount of work (and materials). every crevice, seam, join, curve, edge has to be dealt with. just wrapping the mirrors for example is complicated. and the ppf on my lc's headlights involved a dozen pieces i believe!
i didn't get the whole car done though... i don't see a lot of point in doing all of it unless it's something unique like this matte ppf.
Absolutely, it is a TON of work and takes a great deal of skill.
I would only do the whole car if its something like this (matte) or if its a special car I really would keep forever...then you just would never have to worry about scratches or swirls etc. For instance I love black cars, but my OCD would never let me have one. if I ever got one, I would have the whole thing PPFed...
$6500 isn't crazy at all, just the nose cone done well is easily $2000-3000. It's nice if you do a perfect correction and never want to worry about it again
Keeping it protected makes it look better, stay cleaner longer, resist marring and etching and swirling better. PPF protects it from rock chips, it being garaged doesn't make any difference there unless its just never driven.

i guess you meant whether it's in a garage of not makes no difference as far as rock chips... true enough, but garage definitely has other benefits, i won't get pterodactyl droppings hitting my lc500 like AJT went through recently.

Sure it does. It spends 99.5% of its life out of the elements in a climate controlled garage. Never sits in the sun, ever.

That had nothing to do with a garage (it was out on the main drag), but that whole thing was ridiculous. Avoid geese when they take off, just a little friendly advice.

What I mean is a car that spends its evenings in the garage still needs to be protected, unless it just never leaves the garage.
