3 sets of tires.
1 new battery.
2 transmission fluid changes.
x amount of oil changes (religious at doing it every 5k)
Nothing else comes to mind. .
2005 Camry. What about the engine coolant? Brake fluid? Engine air filter? Doubtful brake pads and brake rotors will last from 2005-2019 with no service.
No struts last 240,000 miles. These things are wear items and they have a lifespan. My ES300 is not in showroom condition, but its had repairs that needed to be done to it as any high mileage car will have. I think you just didn't realize how much stuff actually needed to be done to that car. Like I said, it has $4,000 worth of stuff that needs to be done to it right now, it still runs and drives well but that doesn't mean its "problem free".

Forgot about those. Had a friend do them for me once. Engine air filter was like 15 bucks every once in a while lol I didn't count that. Never added brake fluid. Maybe he did when he changed the brakes. I don't know.

Well mine did apparently lol. I would know if I had to take my own car into a shop to get it done. Never happened.
Yeah who knows what would have happened if I kept driving it. I'm sure I would have needed to get some things done over time.
Ran a search on cargurus for 2003-2007 Camry's for sale. There are 1,047 in this country and only 20% have the 6-cylinder engine.
Does that determine that the 4-cylinder sold more than the 6 during the mid 2000's? No, but that's the best indicator I could find. Unless you have a source that tells me otherwise, I'm going to believe that the 4 greatly outsold the 6.

Just because you didn’t realize the struts needed to be replaced doesn’t mean they didn’t need to be replaced. Most people don’t realize their suspension is worn because it becomes worn so gradually.
No...they are way more complex than a basic Mercedes.
But it needs thousands and thousands of dollars worth of work. Sure its running, but the timing belt could explode at any moment, its leaking oil, and has all kinds of other issues and deferred maintenance. If you want to keep a car like that running well, its going to cost serious money over time.
.
My LS hasn't. It's cheap AF to keep running. That's why there are still so many out on the roads, they just don't ever break and drive the same fabulous way no matter how old they get and with just reasonable care. They're easy to work on, old tech. I wouldn't do it with mine but I'm sure "Jim's Garage" can do 90% of work on an old LS. Mercedes not so much.
No 26 year old W140 S420 or 500 would make it to 250k with zero maintenance. For the sake of argument if they did, the bill to get it up to snuff would be twice or 3xs as high or even more as it would be for this LS400. That's my point.

If you're talking E vs S-class, sure. If you're talking basic vs loaded of the same model - not really. Excluding S-class-like models, as they actually offer nice things, like the active hydraulic suspension. The engines themselves don't suddenly become more brittle as they get bigger / more powerful. Same with the transmissions & other drivetrain components.

Lasts != performs. Shocks REALLY should be changed (or serviced/rebuilt, if possible) somewhat regularly. Worn shocks - tyres wear out faster, you get less grip overall, the car may or may not be somewhat crashier than usual (counter-intuitive), the springs start wearing out (the shocks kind of prevent a whole lot of conditions where the springs actually accumulate wear), so on and so on.

Your LS is not 250,000 miles, and you’ve maintained it, it should have had 2 timing belts by now. A W140 is way more complex, a W126 S Class could get there. W124 or W210 E Class can too.
Plus your radio doesn’t work, you have issues and have had issues too
Because only the basic models were 4cyl, the mid trims which are the most common trims were the same V6. Anyways its a moot point since none of the costs I have put into my old ES have anything to do with the engine being a V6.
And I listed a comprehensive list of what I have done and what needs to be done, I owned the car since new. If your car had 240,000 miles on it and you had never had one repair, it had a whole lot of stuff wrong with it that needed to be done. For one, it should have had two timing belts and water pumps at $1,000 a pop at least. The struts would be shot, suspension bushings and engine mounts would be shot, water pump would be leaking for sure, belts would all be shot, probably had leaking CV boots and a leaking main seal (they all have these issues). 240,000 miles is also not 500,000 kilometers, thats 310,000 miles.
Only if you didn't actually maintain your car. Its the same car.
NO vehicle will survive to that mileage without requiring repairs.
Amen.
A car can work just fine and not be perfect, if you actually want it to work correctly it's not cheap at all. There are no cars I have ever seen past 150k that truly need nothing, even 100k is very rare. 200k isn't happening.
