Default 2022 Gas Prices

Gas prices for Name-Brand/Tier-1 Regular 87 Octane have been hovering in the $3.50-3.70 mark in the D.C. area now for a while. But, suddenly, they took a big jump in the last few days, and, I noticed today, were around $4.05 in my neck of the woods (Fairfax County, VA). (93 Octane Premium was averaging around $4.69-$4.79, although one Exxon Gas-Mart, near my house, a place which is notorious for rip-offs (and still manages to stay in business) had 93 Octane close to $5.00.

There are some obvious reasons for this, and perhaps some not-so-obvious ones, although these reasons might (?) be considered too political for discussion here (that will be up to the moderators).

The D.C. area, of course, is not necessarily the most expensive place in the country for gas........traditionally, California, Chicago, Alaska, and Hawaii, for various and sometimes different reasons, rank at the top when it comes to opening your wallets at the pump. I suspect that we might see Premium 93-octane well above $5 (or maybe even close to $6) in those regions before long. And, of course, that would only be a limited taste of what Europeans/Japanese/Australians, and, to an extent, Canadians, have had to deal with for years. But, here in the D.C. area, we have not had $4 regular gas for some years now.....this latest bump crosses a major line.

Oil prices are great for my province gubbermint posted a $500 million budget surplus. Oil past $110/barrel today. But this is going to make everything go up in price don't think many people realize how much of our goods are shipped via trucks that use oil based energy.

Gas hit almost $6 in some areas where I live for premium. Highest i've seen it for awhile now. I'm just happy that sunlight stays the same price

Expect everything to go up, with so many raw materials required around the world coming from Russia and Ukraine, we'll soon see $7-8 gas.

Great thing for you is your costs are already built in and they can't go up.

It's already $7+ in Los Angeles. With all the natural oil in the U.S., makes me think how bad of a direction we've been going...

Brent crude projections and looking "fun", we might hit 150 a barrel and that would be about a dollar more than current for gas on average. Obviously it will be worse in states with more "overhead" let's call it....

I'm not that concerned or surprised, the dollar is weakening faster than gas is going up on average so fuel will be the least of concerns if current behaviors continue. The issue that will really cause a problem is food costs

2 years ago oil was under $20. This should be (but won't be) a stark warning (again) to be as energy independent as possible.

Not only energy independent.

But we don’t even have manufacturing for basic everyday items and most common drugs!

The pandemic has taught us nothing……

Perhaps between the pandemic and the war, it's the end of globalism and every country will have to become self sustained?

That's insane if some gas stations are charging that now. According to this site, today's average in Los Angeles is $5.15 a gallon. California's state average is currently $5.07.

Average here in Washington State is $4.22, which is pretty much on par with what I saw when I was out today. I saw Kroger was $4.89 for premium. Average in DC today is $3.96.

$4 for 87 might look like a great price by Memorial Day weekend.

We've been paying $4-5 per gallon for what seems like a few years now. Forgive me for not feeling sorry for East Coasters lol
